The Richmond Republic of Thursday bas a correspondence between “citizens” and Attor- ney General Bowden, of Va., in regard t the question of ecligibi’ity to municipal offices of Confederate officers. Mr. Bowden says such offices are not “constitutional offices,” and that there is nothing in the Constitution of Vir- ginia disqualifying Confederate officers or any other class of persons from holding offices which are not constitutional, The election for municipal officers came off at Fredericksburg on Tuesday. Montgomery Slaughter was re-elected Mayor. There was searcely a change in the Council. The Raleigh Progress of the 1fth has the fol- lowing: Miss Temple Neely, who killed a negro | woman by shooting her through the heart, near Mocksville, has been allowed bail in the sum of $26,000, and her mother at $5,000, to appear }- when summoned for trial. The cause the difficulty was impudence from the negro to the young ly’s mother, aud she appears to bo generally justified for the act. 4. B.
