Ifsuch reckless abuse of the Privilege of Aqueduct water is not stopped, he community at large will be stinted in its ewuser supply very shortly. Ee cfs Pusan CoLuMBIAN COLLEGE ScCHOLARSHIP.—The Columbien College , scholarship has been @warded this year to Robert H, Harkness, son of Thomas Harkness, of the City Post Office. ‘The,successful candidate isa pupil] ofthe First District Grammar School, taught by S. The contest for the scholarship this year ran ery close between two of the pupils of this schoo The previous suceessful candidates in this dis- trict were Patrick McAuley, Jos. H. France, and Elbert Turner, taking the prizes in the ears 1651-2-'3. _ ee “Sate oy 'Stramens.—To-morrow at noon the second great sale of vessels which have Deen in the service of the navy will take place gui the Navy Yard by Messrs. Wm. L. Wall & ©o., Auctioneers, and it will no doubt attract a darge number of steamboat men, merchants and others. Among those to be sold are some very Substantial boats, some having been but re- cently put in complete order, among them the Bide-wheel steamer Commodore Read, former- oe a. New York ice boat, Freeborn, Yankee and acob Bell, propeller Anacostia, and schooners Hugle and Bacon, the two latter being well Aknown 4s the guard boats of the Potomac. — ee RAM. THE TRENCHES.—We have complaints rom all quarters of the city concerning the in- ‘adequate manner in which the earth is rammed ‘¥m the trenches, where water pipes haye been daid. In consequence the earth sinks in them eansing innumerable accidents, breakages and ©verturnings of carriages, &c. In other cities itis required of those executing such work that they ram the earth as it is filled in, socom- actly that it is nearly if not quite as firm as the surrounding soil, and any poetb ity ofa depression occurring is prevented by throwing n surplus earth. — ee Seconp Warp Station Cases.—Jos.
