It is properly the station-honse of the hird Ward, but when finished was occupied smporarily by the Second, Third and Fourth Ward police jointly. The tollowing letter indicates the return of the britding to the civil authorities, but it is understood that for @ short time the military aye the privilege of confining prisoners RTERS DEPARTMENT OF WASH- washin kan: D. Heavy Rary.—Yesterday after a very sultry day, northeast passed over the cit with torrents of mnddy er,and in those sections where the drainage is Mx obstructed cleansing the gutters and sidewalks more ef- fectually than by the ordinary process. It appears in evidence before Justice Handy that the accused was employed by Mr. Francis G. Gillan asa honse- keeper for his family, Mrs. Gillan being sick. The accused, by some means, got possession of Mr. Gillan’s bank book, and went to the bank- ing Louse of Lewis Johnson & Co., and repre- senting herself as the wife of Mr. Gillan, drew the sum of $200. When she was required to receipt, the teller discovered that she could not write her vame, and doubted that she was Mrs. Gillan. She msisted that she was, and exhi- bited anger at the doubt expressed. The wller signed her name, and she made her mark, which is the ground for the charge of forgery. In her defense she stated that Mrs. Gillan gave her the book and told her to draw the money in the way she did. Justice Handy sent her to jail for cou Sarvor Rear Estat ‘Mesers.
