Sherman, on A street, Capitol Hill, and tendered hima serenade. The General was not at home, and the crowd wait- ing some time, Col. S. M. Bowman, Mr. Chas Sherm«n, and others made short addresses. The band then proceeded to the Metropolitan Hotel, and while playing, the General was seen toenter. The crowd calling him out, he briefly addressed them as tollows 1 am sorry gentlemen, that I was not athome ‘when you called upon me to-night. 1 am here a stranger in a strange house,and I have no Tight to use it for any purpose whatever; but 1 can at all times, sions, thank you for any kindness extended to weand the army under my command. Neminations of over a dozen persons were made for secretary, all of whom declined, until Mr. E. A. Adams consented to serve. The Chair having announced one of the objects of the meeting to be the indorsement of the nominees on the general ticket, the nomi- nations of Wm. Dixon for Collector and 8S. E Dougiass tor Register were ratified. No nomi- mation for Surveyor was made Mr. John Wilkinson moved that the nomi- mation of John H. Peake for Alderman, made at the meeting at Odd Fellows’ Hall, be rati- fied; which, after some debate, was carried, the vote by tellers being 53 in the affirmative | to 44 in the negative. Nominations for the Council ticket being in order— Mr. Wilkinson moyed that the nomination of Wm. Talbert. made at the Odd Fellows’ Hail meeting, be ratified, when Mr. Talbert’s son withdrew his name. The platean selected is as Camp Stoneman, and is a large and beautiful spot on the shores of the Eastern branch of the Potomac, admirably adapted for the evolutions of a large body of men. It was about half-past five o’clock when Gen. Han- cock, atthe head of Dis numerous staff, in full uniform, came upon the ground. He rode slong the front, was duly saluted, and then took his position near the flag, in the centre of the column. when the corps was broken into companies, and thus divided into regiments, and the whole defiled past him with streaming banners and music from two_ brass bands and a number of drum corps. Brig. Gen. Carrol, of this city, was im active command of the whole review. Two of the regiments were urmed with the celebrated sixteen-shooters— both being Penrsylvania regiments—and one from Philadelphia. After the review, the of- Ticers and a number of guests were invited by Gen.Carrol to his headquarters, where they were hospitably entertained. Gov. Curtin, who accepted the invitation ot Gen. He enlisted on the ith March, 1564, in the Ist New Jersey Cavalry, 0om- pany G, where he served his count faithfully and actively, being with General Sheridan in his many successful and hard-fought battles in the campaign of Ii, where he endured many hard- ships and dangers. In one battle he had his horse shot from under him. In the fall of 1851 he was paced in hospital near City Point, where he re- mained in bad health until January, 1855, he was to cam, to be remounted, where it is sup. posed bedied.
