The fire spread rapidly, and notwith- standing the efforts of the crews of the guard boat and the propellor Belger to stay the flames the vessel was almost entirely de- stroyed, with the exception ot her hull. A portion of the Mailor’s cargo was saved in a damaged condition. A schooner, name unknown, bound from City Point tothe Washington Arsenal, with ordnance stores, sunk in the Chesapeake Bay day before yesterday during the prevalence of & storm. he vessel and cargo wiil doubtless be a total loss. The wharves from 1x to 7th streets present a busy wed cancers al the present time, a large number of vessels being in pert, loading and unloading army stores of all descriptions. The rivertrom Washington for some distance be- low Alexandria is completely lined with vessels of all classes which have brought large amounts ofsupplies for Sherman’s army and the Army of the Potomac. Four ferry boais are now plying between Washington and Alexandria, and consideravle fivally exists, the steamers Keyport and Young America rurning in opposition to the Collyer and Fulton, which has had the effect of reducing the fare to five cents.
