Tne head of the column moving from the campin Chesterfield at 730 a.m., will com- sence passing through the city about 9a. m., Bnc will occupy nearly the whole of daylight n passin, The eant will be a°counterpart of that which was witnessed on Saturday last, and will be viewed with interest by thousands of ciizens Mayon Gen. WM. T. SuzRMAN, Comman- } @er-in-Ohief of the Army of Georgia, arrived in Manchester yesterday from City Point, ac- companied by his staff. After an inspection of thecemps of the lith and 20th corps of his army, located in Manchester, Gea. Sherman rode over to Richmond, and was at the Spots- wood Hotel during the afternoon. It is more than probable that the distinguished chieftain will appear at the head of the line to-day upon | to asion of the march of the troops through | the . No _PAsses REQUImRED.—By an order from tien. Halleck, it 1s understood that all loyal persons can come and go from Richmond with- ou: passes or restrictions of any Kind: they simply being required to register their names as they land or leave. Confederate officers or soldiers who go to loyal States without proper Buchority do so at their own peril. Tue Court or CONCILIATION—Judge Mere. «ith presiding. This court sat yesterday at 11 a.m. Present, all the members—.sudge Mere- dith and Lyons, and Henry W. Thomas, Esq. The court ordered the issuing of a numberof | summons for the attendance of parties to Suits, and fixed next Thursday @0-morrow) for the hearing of the first case upon the docket. A REVELATION.—It bas come ont since the conflagration of the 3d of April that many hun. cred boxes of fine manufactured tobacco were destroyed im secret and out of the way places, ‘were it had been conveyed by itsowners. Ona man had a chimney filled up with boxes at his store on Cary street, and lost it all. Another bad seyeral hundred boxes stored away be- tween the joice of his storehouse floors, and ‘Was equaily unfortunate. A third nailed up 2 board sheathing under his stairway, and had About eighty boxes deposited therein, but the fire found it out. The tobacco was hid away to prevent its seizure or impressment by the Confederate Government, but in escaping one @gent of destruction the owners thrust their | choice jeat into the maw of an agent equally relentless. The worst over now, and the to- bacco gone, the losers tell the story of their ruse on themselyes, and laugh over it asa good joke THE ALLEGED CONSPIRATORS. More about Docter Tumblety—New Facts. From the Rochester Union, 9th.; As Tumblety resided im Rochester many years, and is well known here to almostallour ens, we need not tell them that the stories | € About in the newspapers areerroneous. His name is J. H. Tumblety, and Blackburn is an alias he has assumed somewhere. His mother resides here still, ana he has other rel- | atves, all repectable citizens. He is of Irish | origin, Snd no half breed, and has no Indian biood. He will be remembered by many, some | titteen years or more since, as a dler of books upon the cars, and subsequently in other Ryocations, not long in any one here in town. He once had an office in Smith’s Block, where | he went by the name of Philip Sternberg, and | treated & certain class of diseases. When one | K. J. Lyons, an “Indian Herb Dector,” had an | office over the Post Office, Tuamblety used to be with him, and he probably pickea up the information Be as to start him in his pro- fession there. hen ready to go abroad as a full fledged “yarb’’ Doctor, he procured a certificate of character, signed by a dozen or twenty of our most respectable citizens, who gaye their names not knowing that he intended to practice medicine. Tumblety went to Toronto and there pat out his shingle as a physician, and Sabishes the names he had procured here. hen the papers came back those who had signed the certificate of charac- ter were much annoyed. Subsequently Tumblety was arrested at Te- yonto on the instigation of the regular faculty ms @ guack, and he was taken betore a court. ‘There he produced some kind of a certificate whi ch he had obtained from a Philadelphia College, and escaped with a fine of twenty pounds, which he paid, and resumed practice With considerabie ecl Subsequently he had & difficulty in Montreal, which cost him a con- siderable sum to get out, but all tended to give him the notoriety he sought, and he probably made s great deal of money by being prose. cuted by the “regulars.” He afterw: is fig- ame at Buffalo and other cities along the bor- Ts. ‘When the war broke out he a) re; Washington, and was once Geaetiod ae petted geon on the staff of General McUlelian, but chis was subsequently denied and explained. Turblety bas not been here that we can hear of in three or four years. Reports state that he was arrested at St. Louis. He will prob- | ably get notoriety enough out of his Iast arrest | to gratify his ambition in that direction for a | lnfetime, if he is able to show that he is inno- | cent. Those who knew him best say that he | Was no pelitician, and they think he would not be likely toengage in such 2 diabolical scheme as that in which his man servant, Her- old, was concerned. This is, we believe, a truthfal sketch of “«Dr.Tumblety,” so far as it goes. THE PHILADELPHIA INCENDIARY PLoT— ‘The Philadelphia North American, May ivth, says he “diabolical attempt to blow up the i negazine at Point Breeze, as pub- ished in & morning paper yesterday, owed its origin to these facts: That on the Wednesday migh: previous to the Sunday night when our city was alarmed bya report that the town was to be fired, a large barn, located within a sBort distance of the magazine, was visited by a thief, who, in order to see his way, struck a maatch, wBich, while lighted, was ‘thrown on the bern floor. The flame was communicated to some combustible material on the floor, but in a few minutes burned itself out without doing any damage. ‘The next morning traces of the fire were dis. covered, and the officers whose duty it was to investigate the matter were decided in their opinion that, had the intention been to fire the siace, the torch would haye been applied di- rect to the hay and straw, of which there was | a large quantity, and not on the floor near the door. e fire hoger near the door, con- vinced the officers that design of the party was plunder, as immediately upon enter: the building he strucka light tosee hisway. This accident, however, might have resulted in the bnrning of the barn, in which case the maga- zine would have been in great danger. DU?"
