Se egg A NoOv&L SIGHT POR WASHINGTON—An ez- Rebel Band Serenading the Secretary of War— Among the rebel deserters who arrived kere yesterday, and who took the oath of allegiance at the Soldiers’ Rest, were seventeen musicians who gave themselves upin Petersburg to our forces. Seven of them resided in Petersburg, and they belonged (with the exception of two from the 55th North Carolina regiment) to ya- Tious Virginia regiments and battalions, sey- eralof them hailing from Nortolk and Rich- mond. Mostof them were in Gen. Mahone’s division, being detailed from their regiments into 8 brigade band. Ssyrisg: they played under Hackerton, late of the 12th Virginia, and as they marched from the wharf to the Soldiers’ Rest, at the head of 170 deserters, playing ‘Old Virginia Shore,” «Dan Tucker,” *Jordan,” &c, they attracted @ great deal of attention, and during a consid- erable portion of the day they played in front of the officers’ quarters at the Rest.
