THB RESEL PANIC IB RICHMOND. ‘The tact that the publication of all the Rich- mond papers was suspended yesterday in con- sequence of the whele newspaporial force of the city printers, reporters and clerks having been forced into the ranks on account of some press- ing military emergency, would indicate either that Sheridan’s movements were sufficiently threatening in the vicinity of Richmond to callgut everybody to defend the city or its communications; or that Lee is sending troops to confront Sherman, and the citizens of Rich- moxd are thus thrown on their own resources for tke defense of that place. 14 is on the sharp horns of two dilemmas, with Sherman and Sheridan closing in on his communications and Grant holding him fast befoge Richmond. FRENCH Mi8SSION—APPOIN TMEN one HON. JOHN BIGELOW. HAS JEFF DAVIS RESIGNED? ‘There is a report prevalent on the street that Jeff Davis—according to information from tebe} sources—has resigned, in order to give placp to those who are disposed to accede to the desire of the Southern property owners tor peacr short of confiscation. The report is doubtless premature, but there is no doubt that the sands of Jeff. Davis’ rule fre go nearly run as to make it liable to be true at any moment. STILL THEY COME.
