Tue BALTIMORE Visirors.—On Saturday evening, after the committve of our Councils having the Baltimore Councils in charge had shown them around as much as the limited time would allow, they were escorted to the Seaton Heuse, where, at about ‘ o’clock, they dined in company with the members of our Oity Councils. The dinner was a magnificent one, consisting of an abundance of substan- tials, including every delicacy, and the ap- pesrance of the tables reflected great credit Upon the heuse, there being a profusion of or- namental dishes upon it. There were three tables set, at which about ninety persons sat down, Alderman Utermehle and Councilman Larner presiding at the principal one, and Councilmen Owen and Wilson and Aldermen McUatbran and Canfield at the others. The Union Glee Club of Baltimore oocupied one siae of the principal table, while, besides the members of the delegation present, we noticed Capt. T H. Carmichael, Marsbal of the Baiti- more po'ice, Mr. Starr, of the Baltimore Clip- per, and several other representatives of the Baltimore prees. After some time was spent in discussing the substantiajs, Alderman Utermenile stated that it gave the Washington Councils great pleas- ure to entertain the visitors, and that they had done their best to make the visitan agreeable one, althoogh the circumstances were unfa- vVorable; but he trusted that they (the-visitors) ‘would be as well pleased with their reception as the members of Washington Councils were in having an opportunity to entertain them THs QUIET OF Tuk CiTY.—Aiter the inaa- WANTS. gural procession was dismissed and the asso- cia‘ions composing it had gone to their quar- ters toenjuy refreshments and rid themselves ofthe mud which had accumalated on ther clothing during the day, the Saperintendent of Police and the sergeants made their prepara. tions for the night, and from the mode of strengthening the force in the most pepulous precincts, and where trouble was likely to be excited by intemperance, it was evident that they anticipated trouble in the discharge of their duties. Notwithstanding the festivals which were participated in by thousands of strangers in Washington, Saturday night was the most orderly nigbt thatsucceeded an inaa- guration s‘nce the first termof Andrew Jack- son. Few drunken men were seen staggering | About the streets; assaults, robberies, riots, all the crimes that were numerous on former oc- | casions when the city was so densely crowded were few cn this. The detective police had no pickpocket cases, and the reports of other of- fenses were ot littleimportance comparatively. Capt. Carmichael, of the Baltimore police, came to Washington with a number of the de- tectives of his force, who remained on duty during the day looking out for the professional thieves known te them. Yesterday morning being pleasant and cheer- ful, the streets and avennes were soon thronged with strangers. Upon Pennsylvania avenue the resident population was lost in the crowd of visitors moving to and from the various places of interest, and a resident might look in vain for hours for the face of an acquaintance.
