The Chair laid before the Board a communi- catton from the the treasurer, (Mr. John Sess- ford,) containing a detailed statement of all public school property in his possession on the 24th of December. Read and referred to Com- mittee on Supplies. ~ Monthly reports were then called for, when Bir. Morsell (the Secretary,) stated that the ‘were not ready to be laid before the Board, owing to the new blank forms not being in readiness. Mr Rhees reported the returns of the 24 Dis- ‘trict were all in. Mr. Wilson presented the bill of R. T. Mor- sell, for examining the title of a new school- Bo the bill of John Mountney, for repair- ing stoves, &c., in the Second District; and the bill of Dixon & King, for fuel, all of which ‘were ordered to be paid. Mr. Rhees presented the bill of Magill & Witherow, for $186.30, for printing blanks, &c. Ordered to be paid. The treasurer also presented to the board a Jarge number of bills, which were approved and ordered to be paid. Mr. Turton asked permission to withdraw the resolution authorizing the discontinuing of night schools, offered by him at a former meet- ing. Granted. Mr. Holmead regretted that Mr. T. withdrew the resolution, as he thought the night schools were barren of any fruits, and in order to test the matter, and give gentleman an opportunity to express their views, he renewed the resolu- tion just withdrawn. Some Jittle discussion ensued, and finally the subject was referred to a special committee, consisting of Messrs. Turton, Wight, Hitz, and Holmead. Mr. Rhees offered a resolution, which was adopted, authorizing the Secretary to make arrangements to haye the minutes of the board published, after each meeting, in some city paper, in order that the teachers may be offi- ciahy informed of changes in rules, adoption of new plans, &c. Mr. R., in introducing this Tresolution, gave among reasons fer doing so, that it was often found impossible to obtain an extra copy of the Star or other papers contain- ing reports of the proceedings of the meetings of the board. On motion of Mr. Miller, Dr. F. S. Walsh was elected Vice President for the ensuing year. Adjourned. Deart M&8TING IN THE FIRST WARD.—A large meetirg of the citizens of the First Ward was held last night at Stott’s Hall, corner of Pennsylvania avenue and 20th street. Mr. Samuel FE. Douglass was called to the chair, and U. B. Baker appointed secretary. Mr. Douglass, in stating the object of the Meeting, said that if some steps were not taken to reduce the quota, every able-bodied citizen in the ward would be required to fill the large number assigned to this ward. A gentleman stated that to his knowledge, when the enrollment was made, there were employed in the Government corrals in the First Ward over 2,000 men, and that now there ‘were something less than 200. After a collection had been taken up to de- fray the expenses of the meeting, on motion the meeting adjourned until to-morrow night, to hear the reports of their Aldermen and members of the Common Council as to the proceedings of the boards. ———_—_ TRIAL or Cart.
