Atter the meeting was called to order by Jndge Macon, Hon. T. B. Fiorence suggested thatas Congress was in session they could make arrangements to have addresses driiv- ered each meeting, and he therefore suggested ibat a committee be appointed to iuvite mem- bers of Congress to address the association. Mr. J.D. Lekenac thonght the suggestion a good one, as it would give vim to the meetings and encourage™the members of the associa- tton Upon the motion of Dr. T. G. Olayton, Mr. Florence was appointed to wait upon the members of Uongress and invite them to ad- dress the association -Mr. Samuel Brereton moved that as the or- ganization was to be permanent, 4 list of mem- bers be made out, and tMatit bs made incumbent npon them to contribute 25 or 50 cents eacn per month to defray the current expenses of the association. Mr. Fiorence was opposed to the motion because it would tend to keep gentlemen away from the meetings. He thought that the least embarrassment would always secure the largest attendance. He was under the impres- sion that Mr. B.'s proposition could not be car- ried into effect according to the provisions of the by-laws of the association. Mr. Brereton withdrew his mo‘ion, but gave notice that at the next meeting he would move to amend the by-laws so as to make each mem- ber pay & monthly contribution. Mr. Clampitt said he desired to’offer a reso- Intion which would meet the approbation of every one, and reach the hearts of the Democ- racy of the District Mr. Clampitt then offered a resolution far the benefit of the Constitutional Union, and author- izing the appointment of a committee to collect asum of money to be tendered to tre editor of the Union as a Christmas preseni. Adopted. The Chair then appointed a committee, con- sisting of two gentlemen from each ward of the city and three from Georgetown, to carry out the provistonsef the resolution. Mr. Clampitt, from the committee appoiated ata former meeting to dratt a series of resolu- lions as & basis for the future action of the as sociation, stated that the committee had the matter under advisement, but would be unable to report until next meeting. Alteran explanation by the President that the debts of the old association had been liqui- dated, the meeting adjourned. ——_—s—___—_ REMEMBER THE OKPHANS.—Don't fail to re- Member the fair for the benefit of the orphans, now in progress at Odd Fellows’ Hall, 7th street. under the care of kind-hearted ladies of this city of various churches, who have anited their efforts in behalt of the homeless little ones deprived of their natural protectors. As we stated yesterday, the appeal comes home to all in our midst, whether citizens or sojourners, from the fact that a large proportion of the or- phans here belong elsewhere, many of them being the children of seldiers. The fair room abounds 11 icles of use and ornament, gold at a fair price; sud we must not forget to mention tke excelient supper pro- vided nightly, by eating which the charitably inclined can beip along the good cause in the Most enjoyable manner to themselves person- fliy.
