Oxvorp Mvsic Hatt.—This handsome new establishment is meeting with great success for the short time it has been in existence. The company is admirably selected, embracing some of the best artists the country can pro- duce, and the pieces put on the stage baye a treshness giving them great attractiveness WASHINGTON THxaTee.—The diorama of the present war vow on exhibition at this place is a splendid specimen of art, and has been gotten up at createxpense. LItsrepresen- tations of the principal conflicts of the rebel- lion sre excellent, and well worth acall. Go and see it. —E Navy Yarp.— Every department of the yard is now in full blast, turning out daily fine specimens of workmanship. In the black- smith shops, of which Mr. Brown is the mas- ter workman, large iron cables are daily m hand, as well as anchors, ranging from the smallest to one of 5,400 pounds, calcalated for the largest vessels ufloat. To forge these tremendous anchors the large trip-hammer, weighing 16,0:0 poands, is brought into oper ation, and visitors who happen to be in the shop at the time, take great interest in the manner in which it is worked. The boiler-maker's department, in charge of Mr. Lescallet, isin full blast also. This de- partment is full of work, but more room is ! needed; indeed, much of the work of this de- partment is now done in the open air, owing to the press upon it. The copper rolling-mill, with its splendid engine, in charge of Mr. McNally, 1s also fuily occupied, rolling out copper for sheathing, and working up much scrap material heretofore thrown away or sold tu outside parties, at a loss to the Government. The machinists and engineers’ department (Mr. George R. Wilson in charge) now works over two hundred hands, is fall of work, and the hands are just about completing three pairs of engines of 34- nch cyitnder for gunboats, which will fully sustain the reputation of the shop. Another p ir of engines, of 60-inch cyl- | inder, 4re well under way. A pair of large | engines, 1()-inch cylinder, have just been | placed in hand. Besides the new work donein | this department, there is also a large amountof repairing done for vessels of the flotilla, &c. 1p some of the departments mechanics are | badly needed, the force employed not being sufficient for the wants of the service, and es- , pecially are machinists, pattern makers, moulders and boiler makers wanted. Forsome time past no good mechanic applying for work ; has been refused, and, the wages here being as high as at any other point, a sufficient force for | the demands of the service ought certainly to be obtained. = WE ARE OLAD to announce that the tempo- rary wooden root that was erected in the ro- tunda ot the Capitol, to aid in the censtraction of the iron one above it, has been removed, and | the pane! work of the Jatteris revealed in allits massive grandeur. tis painted in asubdued | color.batthe work of gilding and other ap- propriate coloring will be a thingof time to com plete. This is to be dope under the direc- tion of Mr. James Galway, who has super- vised the hazardous business of painting the | exterior of the dome, without an accident be- fa)ling a single person engagedin it. One does not readily -ee how the concave surface of the | ceiling of the rotunda is to be painted; but we were informed that it was to be effected by & shaft securely fastened at one end above the | eye of the do while the other rested on the | cornice, a hu ed or so teet below, along | which said shaft would b+ moved upor rollers | or wheels. The cornice in qarstion is about two feet wide, though from tne tloor below it | does not seem to be more than four inches The lower cornice is four teet wide. When we have seen painters let down the ontside of | the dome upon barrow platforms, by appir- | ently mere lines, it seems almost incredible | thet not the Jeast accident bas befallen one of | them. So of those who have been employe in piscing iron castings at dizzy heights. } The tens of thousands of people that have Wwaiked, with sense of perfect security, across the floor of the rotunda, from one House of Congress to the other, little knew of the heavy marses of iron which were neing swung into piace above their heads, whick, had there been any want of care by workmen, ora slip or break of machinery, would haye been pre- ipitated through the roof to the floor belew > FirvtTH WARD Drart MEETIXG.—A meeting | of the citizens of t th Ward was held last evening at Langley’s Hall, on Capitol Hill, for the purpose of forming an association, whose | object shall be to coilect money and expend it for recruits, kc, and thereby. if possible, re- | lieve the Ward of a further draft Mr. A. Stewart, A colored M&n, was arrested yesterday morn- ing On suspicion of stealing @ coat, and was taken tothe ith Ward station for a hearing. Stewart said that bis rent was due, and he | bought a stove, which left him without money. | He took bis coat and pledged it with George | Hillen for 4 doliar’s worth of meat, and adollar | incash. esterday he went to get moremoney | on the security of the coat, and Mr. Hillen sus- | pected him of having stolen it, and caused his arrest. The case will be decided to day by Justice Giberson. ATTEMPT AT Surcipg.—On Sunday, at the Marine Barracks, private Charles Collins, Iately one of the guard of the Wabash, made AB aitempt to take his life hy cutting his throat | with a razor. The wound was an extensive | one and he lost mach blood, yet owing to the | proper treatment of it after be was discovered he will probably recover. We refer to the adver tisement of the extensive sale by Clement Hill, ds» of colts, fillies and Durham cattle, on Ovember 29h, at his Upper Marlboro’ tarm. His stable is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, in the United States, and his sale this year will afford an opportunity of securing some of the best specimens or bis superb col- lection. We know ‘of many instances where parties buying pairs of colts at his sales sold them soon after at $1,500 to $2,000, realizing a haud- some profit. The bare fact of their coming from Hili’s stables is indeed a sufficient recommenda- tion throughout all this part of the conntry, a fact due to his publie spirited efforts in the way of stock raising, and the care he has taken with his breecs. The sale of Durham cattle will also be par- ticularly attractive. His short-horn herd is decidedly the best this side of New York, and we doubt if even that State, so renowned for its cattle, can present a herd more valuahle in some important respects than that of Mr. Hill’s. A visit to the sale willrichly repay the trouble, even if the visitor only goes to inspect and admire and nof purchase. ——— Mae. ABNER S. BRADY, nee Pirris, the young and highly accomplished wite of Mr. Brady, the famens gymnast, who has just opened the splendid gymnasium im this city, made her debut in New York, a few days since, at Irving Hall, before one of the largest and most brilliant audiences ever assembled in that building. She is described in the New York journals as baying created a furore curpassing that made by any debu/ante for years, her voice being very sweet, clear, and extremely powerful. She is very young, (nineteen years,) a (trecian by birth, and very beautitul. Mrs. Brady was assisted by the following powerfulcast: M’lle Elena D’Angri, M’ile Eugenia Barnetche, Mr. S. © Campbell, Mr. Wm. Castle, Mr. Gotts- chalk, Mr. Eben, Sig. Abelfa, and others Her cavatina from ‘*Ernavi’’ was encored three times, and the duetto from “Il Giuramento” with M. D'Angri was pronounced a perfect gem. Mrs. Brady’s friends are numerous, and comprise the elite of New York musical society, and much interest is manifested in her benalf. — Rt. Rey. A SvxecTacLzB.—This morning, Fanny Jones, a young woman of the fancy order, was taken from a house in C street, near 13th, se drunk that the officer had to get a wheelbarrow and wheel her to the Second Ward Station. It was @ novelty to see a female so finely clad and ornamented with jewelry taking a ride in a wheelbarrow.
