It affords a life- like view of the movements of troops, the blowing up of steamers, the prancing of horses, &c , and is drawing crowded houses nightly to witness it. a eee Tue Sorpiers’ THaw VING DINNER.— ‘The proposed Thanksgiving dinner to the sick and wounded soldiers in the hospitals wasa subject of consideration in several of our Sab- bath schools yesterday. At Wesley Chapel, Mr. ©. H. Lane and the Rev. Mr. Jackson, €kapisin of Armory Square Hospital, in a few appropriate remarks, urged upon the teachers and scholars their co operation in the matter, and referred to the hardships and pri- ‘vations endured by the noble defenders of our fiag and national rights. A collection was then taken up, and notwithstanding the slim at- tencance occasioned by the disagreeable weath- er, $50 were raised towards providing a suit- able dinner for the inmates ot Armory Square Hospital. It may be stated in this connection that Lieut. Col. Gardiner Tuffts, Massachusetts Military State Agent, on behalf of the Union City Com- Mittee and the Mayor of Boston, has tendered toSurgeon Abbott Medical Director, aThanks- giving dinner of turkey for all the soldiers in Hospital in this department, irrespective of States. ALY<ANDRIA AFFAIR8.—From the Virginia State Journal i Yesterday (Friday) morning the iron-clads previously stationed at Fortress Monroe, moved up the James river to Dutch Gap, and the indications were very strong of a heavy Movement being in eperation. We may, there- fore, iook for very startling news from that quarter by the arrival of the steamer to-mor- Tow,and who can doubt that it will be of a mest favorable character. Charles P Leake, a former resident of this city, was accidentally killed on the Baltimore & Obio railroad, near Harper’s Ferry on the 46th inst. His remains have been sent to this city. ee THE VACANCY IN THE POLICE MAGISTRACY- By the necision of the Uourt, last Saturday, in the case of Justice N. H. Miller, the sub-dis- trict composed of the fourth and fifth police precincts. is made vacant. The reports of the sergeant of the fitth precinct show that Justice Clayton tried the cases yesterday and to-day At thet station house. Fire.—Last night, at 9.25 o'clock, the alarm of fire was given from box No.2, corner 10th and H streets. The cause was the accidental burning of a bed in a house on New York av- enue. between 9'h and (ith streets.
