A lot of six horses of the Kind described “were found standing in front of the stanla, cor- ner of C und 12th street, belonging to Parks & oo. Alter advising with Sergeant Tai’ and Rvvundsmen Voss, the officer carried the noises to the Secoud Ward station. In the meantime Wm. S. Clever. Veterinary Surgeon, and Uor- urlins White, Clever’s father-in-law, went the station and each claimed @ portion of the horees. Further information was subsequently re- ceived that Wm. H. Barns, veterinary surgeon, bad a borse of the suspected kird) He was arrested by officer Parker and the horse pro- daced. The case being likely to require the attendance of witnesses out of the city, Jastice Miller, the examiring magistrate, beid Burns, Clever and White to bail for a hearing yester- gay atl2o’clock. At the hoor appointed the parties appeared. The evidence of W.B. Tur- ber, A Witness, was that he purchased a horse found with White about four months ago at the Bazaar, but subsequently discovered the government mark (U.S.) on the horse and re- turned bim tothe man trom whom he pur- chased. Sometime after this he again saw the horse with a big C marked on him Wm. A Month after saw the horse again; the US. had a © marked over it. Witness said be had in- formation that a colored man at Culpeper Court-Honse had made a C brand, and branded this horse with it. B. Brown at the secre- | tary's table. Mr. Clements moved, as the club was about to adjourn, that the properly (‘ransparencies, &c..) be placed in charge of the President. Cosrried. Mr. J. A. Wise moved a vote of thanks to the Officers for the able and impartial manner in which they hai dischargea their respective duties. Oarried. Mr. Ciephane returned his thanks for the hearty manner in which the members had sus- tained the organization. In the beginning it “was thought that the meetings could not be kept op nightly, but the contrary had peen ex- perienced. Every meeting had been crowded, and all had been interesting. This club was ene of the most orderly over which he had ever presided; there had been no discordant feeling; everything had been don+in an or- derly manner, and throughout there was but one +pirit manifested, and that to aid the great cau-~« tor which they nad organized. The as- seciation had accomplished much good. and individually many of the members had not been idle. The State of Maryiand was some- what indebted to the exertions of the clab for the vote which she had polled for the new con- stitution Mr. Clephane then, insome felicitous words, returned bis thanks tothe club, and declared it adjourned sine die. Three cheers were given for Mr. Clephane, God tre ss-embiage left the hall to proceed to the President's House. Mr Wi-e, during the meeting, announced that if the reom could be procured a town Meeting wonld be held on Monday evening to | device menns for the establishment of a house | of refuge, and three ot the judges were ex- pected to be present, with the Mayors of the two cities. Subsequently, Mr. Wise amended his notice by making the time Tuesday night, im order that the City Fathers might be present. ge THE Marine Corrs.—At the headquarters of the Marine Corps there were yesterday morning 27 oflicers and men, and they are all ina bigh state of ipline. Indeed this is now ssid to be the crack arm of the service— | the marching and driil of the men showing | that no puins is spared to make the new recruit | move like clock-work. There are at present | abont 40 recruits and we regret tostate that | Dotwithstarding the attractiveness of this arm of the service, there are but few men being re- ceived intoit Yesterday morning 4 draftof a Sergeant and 32 well drilied men were sent to ‘the frigate Minnesota for distribution to vessels of the North Atlantic Squadron The marine guard et the Navy Yard are under command of Major Fields, and numbers now something over 100 men, who are perhaps #8 fine looking and well drilled body of men @s cen be found any where. Se In THE WroNnG Pew.—A fw evenings since @ jolly resident of this city received a visit from a friend of bis trom the country, a strict cbharch member, and a stranger here. He pro- posed to take him to a Methodist revival, and the two started, and in a short time were snugly seated in the Cantrrbury. The visitor remarked that it was a queer looking church, that he did not see the pulpit, when he was told that it was kept behind that pretty curtain to screen it from the dust until the minister Wished to occupy it. They bad just dropped in between two acts, but in a short time the curtain was raised, and out popped a cele- brated danceuse. and did her nest. The old gentleman saw that he was sold, and broke for the door, saying that kind of church didn’t suit him; and bis jolly friend had to see him home. Thomp- son, Justice of the Peace, asking that an ordi- Dance be passed to prevent rioting and disor- derly conduct in the county,” I deem it but Just to myself to state that I did not ask for the passage of avy ordinance to prevent rioting in the county; well knoaing there is no want of Jaw or legislation to prevent that offense. [ did, however, recommend the passage of aa ordinance (if the Levy Court has the power so to do) to prevent and punish that class of of- fenders who set public opiuion and pablic de- cency at defiance by gross indecency and pro- fanity, on or near the public streets and roads of the county. During the last month, having at- tended at the Second Precinct Station, (near the Park, on 7th street,) I have observed thata number of offenses of the class above referred to bave been committed on 7th street, in the county beyond Boundary street. Hence my suggestion to the Levy Conrt that it seems de- sirable to pass an ordinance in relation tosuch offenses which may hereaiter prevent their 50 frequent repetition. 1 am your obedient servant, W. Tuompson, J. P. —————— BILLIARD TOURNAMENT LAST NIGHT.—Last evening, an exciling and iateresting billiard match was played at the new and spacious saloons just opened by Mr M. Geary over the entrance of Grover’s Theater. The contest was between Messrs. Dudley, Kavanagh, and Michael Phelan. The came was of brief dura- tion, and resulted in fayor of Mr. Kavanagh. Phelan made a run of 1! points, the same as be made in the game with Seriter, in 1857, and the largest run ever made in this country. While waiting for Mr. Phelan, Edward Jahill and Mr. Geary had a friendly game, which Cahill won by one point. Mr. Geary will give, privately, an exhibition of his skill, this afternoon at three o’clock, to which, we learn, a few of his friends and the members of the press are invited. —— CarTURED.—Hiram Harrover, who says he was in the rebel army, but claims to have re- ceived his discharge, was captured yesterday in Prince William county, and sent in toCel.
