Mr. Setchell will mppear to-night in two side-splitting eharac- ters, jn the comedy of “Married Life,” as Mr. Henry Vove, and in the screaming farce of “The Mummy” as Tobey Trap. Go and see dim. ~ CanTskevry.—The beantiful and accom- plished aetress, Cherry Belle, in “Don Juan,” ithe Libertine, is still arawing crowded houses to the erbury. Ske will appearevery night this wee, in connection with the other favor- ites of this well known and well patronized institution. ry ireseapiea as Tus NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC ASSOCIATION— The Burnt Flag —Last night, a meeting of the Wational Democratic Association was held at Parker's Hall, Mr. J. F. Hatiday in the chair. As it was generally understood that a letter trom the Lincoin and Johnson Club relative to the burning of the flag on Friday evening last would be read at this meeting, the hall ‘Was crowded to its utmost capacity. After the transaction ot some routine busi- ness, and aspeech from the Rev, Mr. Denni son, of Tennessee, Dr. Charles Allen mounted the platform, and proceeded to read the fol- lowing letter, which was greeted with groan! pisete: Kaughter, and cries of «Send it back, c Lixcotn AND JoHNSON HEADQUARTEBS, Washington, Oct. 24, 1561.—Hon. Chas. Mason, President McCicllan and Pendleton Club—Sir: At @ meeting of the Lincoln and Johnson Club, held on Saturday evening, Oct.22d, resolutions ‘were acopted expressive of regret at the barn- ing of your flag during the progress of our torchlight procession on the é@évening of the Qist instant, which we believe to have been the result of accident; but if done intention- lly, denouncing the act in the strongest terms. The executive committee of this club was @lso instructed to tender your association an amount of money to cover the cost of that flag, ‘which I now do in behalf of the executive committee, and upon being informed of the sum will immediately pay it over to whoever your association may authorize to receive it. I will simply add that when this 1s aone we request that the injured flag be handed over to the executive committee of this club. Very respectfully, yours, &c., L. CLEPHANE, President Lincoln and Johnson Club. As toon as Dr. Allen had finished reading the Jetter, some one in the crowd proposed three ens for the document; which were duly giver. Dr. Allen moved that the letter be referred to & committee, which should prepare a reply, and submit it to the association for action at its next meeting. Several gentlemen objected to this motion, Snd eries of “Send it back,” “Lay it on the table,” &c., were heard from aJl parts of the Toom. Mr. John F. Ennis did not object to the letter being referred toa committee, as it was ad- Cressed in a respecttal manner, but he desired to state the fact, forthe consideration of the committee, that nottwo hours aiter the flag ‘was burnt, &number of Democrats came for- ‘ward and voluatarily centributed $250, which he had in his pocket, while the Republicans ‘were running all over the city to raise a suffi- cient sum to replace the flag. Finally, Dr. Allen’s motion was agreed to, And the Chair appointed as the committee ee Mason, Dr. Allen, John F. Ennis and W.H. Henig. Private Dupey, cf the Veteran Reserve Corps, and several other gentlemen addressed the association, after which the meeting ad- journed. EE THe McCLeLian FLaG.—In accordance with resolution adopted by the National Demo- eratic Association on Saturday evening, the fiag which was partially destroyed by fire, accidentally or purposely, &s the Lincoln and Johnson procession were passing on Friday night, was yesterday morning sent to Phil- adelphia, to be presented to the National Ex- ecutive Committee. The flag is accompanied by the following committee :—Messrs. Flinn, Clampitt, James L. McGuire, Clayton, Dr. Allen and Geary. The presentation will be made to the National Committee to-night, at the headquarters of the Keystone Ciub, and the democracy of this city expect to make great use of it as a “campaign document.” After the prompt disclaimer of the republi- cans, however, the attempt to manufacture Political capital out of it will be so trans- parent and silly that the above committee will gain nothing by their trip beyond the opportu. nity for an airing and a pleasant little spree. ee A SeERiovs Jokgz.—About ten days since, ©apt. D. Maran, Sth Michigan infantry, ar- rived here with a squad of colored recruits and substitutes, which he turned over to Capt. Camp, at Soldiers’ Rest, according to order, taking his receipt therefor. After the men had been assigned to temporary quarters at the Rest, it was discovered that on the way here he bad attempted to induce some of the men to desert. and had by threats extorted money from two of them, receiving $100 from one, and $10 from another. The men, however, did not de- Sert, and are yet at the Rest. Capt. Camp im- mediately reported the case to Provost Mar- shal Ingraham, and a few days afterwards Capt. Maran was arrested at the Sixth street | ‘wharf, as he was on his way to the front, and he was confronted with his accusers, when he refunded the money, but stated that he did it as a joke. Charges have been preferred against Capt Maran, who is here under arrest, await- ing trial. epee Szconp WarpD Station Cases.—James McGuire, threats; bail for peace. derly; #3.
