a LOCAL NEWS. _ AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT, GROVER's ‘'HEATER.—This evening will be the firstappearance of the Washington favorite, the inimitable Dan Seichell, in two tavorite plays, “Dombey & Son” and “A Regalar Fix, the former atwo-play act by Ohas. Dickens, and the latter a screaming farce, in both of which Dan cannot be excelled, We bespeak for him a crowded honse, as everybody knows im and will be sure to visit him to-night. Forp’s Tugatsx.—We are pleased to an- uounce the compleie success, Quring the past week, of the celebrated young tragedian, Junius Brutus Booth, and who has crowded Ford’s Theater to overflowing. Mr. Booth appears this evening in Shakspeare’s sublime play of “Hamlet,” supported by the celebrated actress, Muss Alice Gray, as (Queen Gertrude. Tom Taylor's great piay of “ Retribution, or a Hus- band’s Revenge,” will be put on the boards to- morrow evening. CANTERBURY.—This is the second week of the accomplished actress, Cherry Belle, who will appear every night this week in the Span- ish pantomime, “Don Juan,” the Libertine, and the first appearance of Miss Jennie John- son, the celebrated vocaiist and comedian, Charley Kane, the celebrated negro delineator, and Dick Collins, the unrivalled banjo player. poet ogc host MEETING OF THE LincoLy anp JouNsON CLUB—Proceedinys in Reference to the Burning of the McClellan Flog.—A \argely attended meet- ing of the Lincoin and jonuson Club was held at the headquarters (“rh street) Saturday night, Mr. Clephane in the chair and Mr. Brown sec- retary. Atier the minutes of the Iast meeting had ead, and the Chair was about to give an in- vitation to all persous wishing to become mem- bers to walk forward and sign the constitu. tion— : Mr. Eivans rose and stated that it struck him that by this time every person in the District favorable to the election of Prestdent Lincoln had had an oppor unity, and hereatter those making application for membership should be scrutinized. The October elections had passed, and the election of Abraham Lincoln was now A foregone conclusion, and many were now in favor of the ticket who were not so before the late elections. His idea was that those coming in the association hereatter should do more than the old members, show who they are and how they stand He moved that hereafter when persons are nominated for membership the nominations be referred to a committee of three, who shall report at the next meeting, when they shall be elected or rejected by bal!ot. The chair (Mr. Clephane) decided that the proposition wus im effect an amendment to the onstitution, aud could not be considered ua- less previous notice had been given. Mr. Elvans remarked that he did not wish to “spring” the subject, but gave notice that at the next meeting he would ofter the amendment. The invitation to sign the constitution was renewed, when a number walked upand added their names to the list, among whom we no- ticed Mr. John J. Mulloy, ot the Fiftn Ward. Mr. A. U. Richards remarked that, in yiew ofsome transactions in convection with the procession, (which passed off in a gratifying | manner, with but one exception,) some action of the club was necessary. It was a matter of Tegret thut the burning of the flag took place, whether it was done iateationally or acciden- | tally, and, whatever might be said, the club | cannot rest under the imparation. If tt was done intentionslly if ceserved the most severe Teprehension. He had spoken to several per- sons about it, and he had yet to find one who did not condemn the act, and he thonght the passage of a resolution embodying the senti- ments of the club was due the club He knew | tha: during the march ‘he most insulting epi- thets were applied to those in the procession, | and some were struck with missiles: but atl this did not justify the act of setting fire to the flag. It was notin reality a national flag, for when names are appended to a flag it los its nationality, and in this case the flag was sim- ply a political flag. Mr. Richards offered the following preamble and resolution: | Whereas during the passage of the Union | toreblight procession u rthe McOletian tag suspended across Penn unia Avenne, at the McClellan and Pendleton headqoaarters, on Friday night, said flag caught fire, accidentally as we believe, from one of the torches borne in the procession: Therefore, Resoived, That thongh at many points along the line of the procession the McClelien men used exceedingly vile, insulting, and taunting remarks towards those composing the pro sion, aud particularly towards soldiers, evea going so far us to hurl stones and other mis- <iles into the line, stil, this clab deeply regrets the burning of said flag, and if it resulted trom design on the part of any person moving im the procession, we condemu it as an act which no iusults can stify, and we believe that every member of (his club would regard such an act in the same light. Mr. J. R. Eivaus was in favor of allowing the largest liberty to ali poli'ical processions. The resolution. in bis opinion, however, did not go tar enough. The damage the Demo- | eratic Association sustained in the barning of the flag should be made good. Hehad yet to see the tirst elements of rowdyism in the Lin- coin and Johnson Clun: and in the Democratic Association there were men who he recognized as centlemen, and he thought (hat offences com- mitted by hangers on should not be charged to the association itself. Vhe procession had been assailed at several points, and wounded | soldiers in it had not been insulted, but struck. Notwithstanding this, he would not charge it to the gentlemen of the assouintion. Hemoved an amendment that the executive committee | ndera new flag to the Democratic Associa- tion as an earnest ‘hat we repudiate the a provided that the McOlellan A iation ac- knowledge that the club is not responsible for | the injury. He hoped that if the resolution was adopted the executive committee ald go marially *o the Democratic headyuarters and nake the tender. Mr. Morse did not considera banuer a na- mul one especiaily when it bore on it the | evidences of treason. He was willing to pay | he damage, bat not to bay a Mevlellan fl Mr. Morse thongbt a mild and passive resolu- n Was all that the party deserved. Already | had they commenced to make capital out of the occurrence. He referred to the Cons! The c ated that the articlehaving head | lines of « niggers,” could not | refer tor the club, (Laughter. } Mr. Richards agreed to accept Mr. Elvan’s | amendment. if modified so as to provide for ndering the amount of damages to the McUiel- lan nesociation, with our regrets. | The chair ested that the committee be empowered to procure a flag similar to the one burn! and presentit tothe McClellan As- sociation and pre-ent the bill to the club A voice. —Not with McUiellan and Pendle- ton upon it. Mr. Thecker ssid that no damage had been done the flag; it had been purified as by tire, and it was more respectable now than before. {Laughier} They, the McUlellan Association, had desecrated the flag in putting Pendieton’s heme upon it, and he would give them “nary a fag Pendleton be kpew personally as a gentleman, but as a poli ician he was a scoun- irel As the procession was passing under the fifg some in it were struck. Mr. John Clary here stated that he was struck by a stone there Mr. Thecker referred Democratic rooms insolling the Republicans when serenadipg Senator Chandler and others afew weeks siuce when they cheered tor Mc- Clean, Pendlewon and eyen Jeff Davis. Mr. Clephane (Mr. Plant in the chair) stated that the marshal: were requested to honor the American ilag at every point along the line. He cave a history of the wigwam riot tour years since, when they tore down the flaz and did cousiderable damage to the building. The Democratic Association then simply passed a resolution regret.ing the ocearrence and «fter- Wards a written communication was sent him offering to pay $50 if ihe parties were r prosecuted, Dut they backed out. Or Friday night it was known fhe procession was to have been attacked, tor he (Mr. ©.) had two meo at the Democraue hesdquarters who kept him posted. and they (the Deinocrats) did make the | attack. The leader ip the attack was aman | named Baum, chief messenger in Captain | Tompkins’ offi Mr, Morse thought. from Mr. Clepnane’s remarks, that the Democrats were in debt to the Republicans, notwithstanding their flag was burned. Mr. G. H. Plant stated that he was satisfied that the burning was purely accidental. He was near by at the time, and saw three or four stones thrown, avd one of the lanterns carried by Campbell Hospital was knocked ont of the Loider’s hand. Several mea with torches rushed up. (directly uuder the flag) when the ilag caught in several places, as he supposed by @ torch accidentally. After some farther debate, the resolutien of Mr. Richards, 9s amended oy Mr. Elvans, was Jost; but the resoimion of Mr. R. was subse quently offered Givested of all amendments, and adopted Mr. Thecker moved that the executive com- to men trom the mittee of the club procure trom the McUtetlan Associstion & fair rendidion of billof costs (Aad the remains of the flar,) which the association will psy; which motion prevailed.
