Attempt te Recapture Fort Harrison. {From th Richmond Examiner, October 3.] We stated in the paper on Rennie that an attempt had been made to retake Fort Har- rison, which had failed, but did pot amount toarepulse Later in the day, an assault was actually delivered, which was ulsed We have since learned that the canse of the failure was @ misconrtruction of the order fixing the time of assanit by one of the division commanders. He ordered his troops to charge the postin twenty minutes before the ap- pointed time, and, of course, received the con- trated fire of the enémy. The men dispiayed great intrepidity, and, it is said, ?came near, carrying the fort, but were compelled to fall back before the heavy fire. By spe time per returned to the cover of the works from which they started, the other col- umn ruoshed forward at the precise minute prescribed in the order for the agsault, and soon encountered the same destructive fire which had repelled the other colamn. The men seemed animated by 8 determination to recov- er the lost position at al! hazards, and at one time it was believed that, ansupported as they were. they would succeed In expelling the ene- my from the peak, but the fire poured into their ranks at length compelied them to recoil, and finally to fall back totheiroriginalline. There seems to be no doubt that the fort could have been re-taken, bad the forces assigned to thé duty acted in concert, as it was designed they should The Yankees will, no doubt, greatly magni: the failure of this attempt to re-take the fort; and we eball not be surprised at reading in their newspapers the Announcement that “the rebels were repulsed with the lors of 2,000 men; bub the fact ia, that in both assaults we did notlose more than 400 men, kilied and wounded, ¥ Georgia.
