There was a larger crowd in attendance than at the drawing of any one ward. Another feature was the presence of two ladies, who eyincdd au interest in the drawing. Te-morrow the last drawings will take place, when the Sth and 9th sub-districts (George- town) will be drawn. Georgetown, however, has a good prospect of filling its quota to-day. egg eee Focrta WARD MzzTinG.—The citizens of the Fourth ward held another meeting last evening. Alter the reports of the committees had been received Mr. J. L. Barbour withdrew the res- olution effered by him the previous evening, 3 yand offered a series prepared by Capt. Moore nd himself. The resolutions request that the zens who have sustained the meetings still tinue them and their efforts to collect money tion of a second draft which seems poe inevi ‘able, judging from the namber of @mmptions. The second resolution requests the officers and committees to continue their valuable services. The third provides for the solicitation of money, with a proviso that none es than #25 be received from any one who Se? desires to participate in the benefit of the pe ast" — the: fund thusraised. The fourth provides if the fund be not sufficient to relieve all the $25 sub- scribers they shall be entitled to receive a share of the money. The fifth provides that the committee on recruiting provide substitutes for those $25 subscribers drafted, if such can be procured at the price heretofore paid for re- eruits, and if they cannot be procured the treasurer be directed to divide the money with them, that may be now on hand. [The arount now on hand is from ten to twelve hundred dollars and the nurnber of $25 @mbscribers drafted is six or eight.) Mr. Jared Knott strenuousiy opposed the adoption of the resolutions, which debars the T man unable to pay the amount receiving mefits. He had heretofore understood that the funds were for the benefit of the entire ‘ward, and not to be used to the prejudice of the poor man. Mr. Penick asked if these parties were to be paid out of the #25 subscription or out of the funds of the whole ward. He stated that some of those he had called on could give but little, and some borrowed what they did pay. Mr. Barbour stated that the working men themselves first urged the $25 subscription. He offered this resolution toincrease the tunds, and had no doubt bat that that would be the effect. Thegentieman on the other side seemed to have forgot that the general fund of the ward had enabled the recruiting committee to ut in 17 recruits, and 31 names were taken rom the box, and he asked who could tell but that the gentlemen opposing the resoiations were the very ones saved by this course. Mr. Murphy said he had offered the original resolution with a proviso that the poor man, whose only means was his daily labor, should receive benefits. He offered his resola- tion to increase the funds, and he believed Mr. Barbour’s resolution would have that effect. Mr. Harley stated that among the drafted there were about fifty belonging to Kendall Green Park, and he asked would it be fair to open the door to these teamsters, who had not contributed? In the course of his remarks Mr. Horley stated that Hon. Charles M. Harris, member of Congress from the Quincy (Ill.) District, had been drafted in the ward. After some further debate, the resolutions ‘were adopted, and the meeting adjourned. a Tuirp Warp ExemrtTion Megtinc.—Mr. Larner (president) announced the reception of $65 in voluntary contributiens yesterday, and the secretary in a very few minutes was called upon to register cush collections amounting in the aggregate to rearly $200. ‘Bhe sale of tickets to the Ford benefit Satar- day was represented in a prosperous condition. A jady named Mrs. Kearns was especially mehtioned as entitled to the thanks of the ward for the zeal she exhibited in aiding the agents to dispose of the tickets. The president announced that they had re- duced the quota to 28. The officers of the asso- ciation were all busily engaged yesterday. They asked the extension of their time till Wednesday, offering to guarantee that the quota would then filled. They offered the guarantee because they had @ positive assur- @nce of 2) men on Tuesday next One thing obtained of great advantage to the ward. ir the dratt takes place to-morrow (to-day) the drafted men will not be called to report till next Wednesday. This extension carries with it the bounty to all men furnished for the ward up to Thursday next. Itis practically an ex- tension of a week. The only thing the ward has to regret is that the wheei will be turned upon it at all. Before the wheel turns the num- ber to be furnished will be 25 men. There are 2,000 in band, and it will take at least $6,000 to clear the ward. The fact was announced to the meeting that Messrs. G. C. Heritage and Edward Taylor, who had contributed and been working in the Third Ward, su: they were enrolled there, had both been drafted in the Fourth Ward. On motion it was ordered that their contributions be refunded. eo j For Tae Bewsvit or THE THIRD WARD.— ‘To-morrow atternoon st 3 o’clock there will be a:fine performan t Ford’s Theater for th @enefit o: the dratied imonthe ‘Thind Ward, eipokee crineate have volunteered services. On faction, it was ordered that all persons who haye contributed to this fand, and who bave been drafted and accepted, shall report to the aksociation on Tuesday evening next, to receive their proportion of the fand, otherwise they may be exempted from its benefits. SS SS ALEXANDRIA AFFAIRS.— Repairing of the Raiiroad.— We to-day learn that the Orange and Alexandria and Manassas Junction Rail- road is actually to be repaired and putin ran- ning order to Strausburg. A large force of workmen, protected by an ample military guard, has been sent forward for its repair. The work will be pushed forward with the utmost possible dispatch, and it will be but a few days ere communication is opened with Sheridan’s gallant army. Alexandria Course.—A match for $200 between three of the fastest trotting horses in the city bas been made, and the trot will come off at the Alexandria course on Saturday next at 4 o’clock precisely. The match is for besttwo in three mile heats to harness. The lovers of the turf and admirers of fine stock will no doubt be present in large numbers. An excit- ing time is anticipated. —Alez. Journal, Sept. 29. eee ANOTHER MAn.—It was not Mr. John Rid- die of the Seventh Ward, we learn, who had climbed toa position above the drafting box yesterday when his name was announced, but another gentleman of somewhat similar name. Mr. Riddle was not present, and moreover says he is not apt toclimb after that eccentric fashion. SS PERsoONAL.—J. O. G. Kennedy, of Washing- ton, is at the Astor House, New York; Brig. Gen.
