The room was gaily festooned, and the national flag was hungover the President’s chair. There was quite a large crowd present, among whom were many la- dies, and a band of music was in attend- ance. At § o'clock the association was called to order by the President, Mr.S. S. Taylor, and the banner was brought into the hall and re- ceived with cheers. Its of silk, about four feet by five, the front being of blue, bearing the inscription, in ilt letters, «-McOlellan, Pen- dleton, and Liberty,’’ and the reverse (crim- son) inscribed, “seventh Ward Democratic Conservative Association: Presented by the Ladies,” trimmed with gold bullion and sur- mounted by 4 gilt eagle. Dr. Charles Allen made the presentation on the part of the donors, and im his address paid a high compliment to the ladies, who he re- ‘ded as having always been the lovers of iberty and Truth, and he instanced the con- duct of Molly Pitcher and others in the Revo- lution, and those who in the present war are ministering to the unfortunate soldiers who had been wounded. The banner was received by Col. C. A. Alex- ander, who returned the thanks of the associa- tion for the beautifal gift. Col. Florence was then called on, and made @ short address, excusing himself by stating that he would shortly take the stump in Penn- © Sylvania. Mr. J. Andrew Wise followed Mr. Florence, and said that the banner would be nailed to the Masthead and carried on to victery. It was only a tew years since, he said, the citizens of the ward were hunted down by detectives act- | ing unéer orders from the Potter committee. | Some months since they had seen men of un- doubted loyalty carried like felons through the Streets to the county jail, twoof whom have since passed to their last account. The mem- ories of Isaac Miller and Henry Dudley were yet fresh to all, and their wrongs have not been jorgotten. There was a day of retribution coming, however. Mr. Wise continued, sta- ting that there was yet hope for the country tbat on the 4th of March next the doors of the Old Capitol would be opened, the proyost mar- shal will be superceded by the sheriff. and the a will rejoice and cry “* God biess George . Aiken fol- lowed Mr. Wise; and the closing speech was made by Dr Allen, who argued that the white slavery of Massachusetts was more degrading than the black slavery at the South: after which, the meeting gave three cheers for the candidates and the ladies and adjourned. Mr. McGinnis, from the committee to call upon the Mayor in relation to the bounty fund, reported that they had been unable to see him, but would probably do so to-day. Mr. Semmes reported that he had putin3 men during the day, and would probably put in 12 more betore the draft took place. He de- sired to know whether it was the wish of the association that he should put the men in after the draft took place, if they were not pro- cured before that time. Mr. W. T. Ford moved that the matter be left to Mr. Semmes’ discretion. Upon this motion, a debate sprang uv, which was participated in by various members, and the motion prevailed. ‘The association then adjourned until this evening, at 7 o’clock. The President said that they had cut the quota down to twenty-nine, and the prospect for to day w4&s very encouraging. In fact, if all things worked well, he expected to be able to announce the filling of the Third Ward quota. A committee of the prominent citizens of the ward waited upon Miss Maggie Mitch- ell and solicited ker assistance in the perform- ances at Ford’s Theater Saturday for the ben- efit of the ward, and they reported that she cheerfully consented, and expressed herself pleased to be able to aid the ward by her ser- vice The tickets for the benefit were distributed last night.
