Dinsmore, who was arrested here several | days since as fugitive trom justice, he having escaped in Phiadelphal from the officers who ‘Were conveying him to the Eastern Pa. Peni- tentiary, where he bad been sentenced for 7 years for murder. Sheriff Gay received a re- quisition from Gov. Cartin yesterday morning and be was brought trom jail and delivered to the officers. While the prisoner was at the detective’s beadquarters preparatory to his ra- moval he was an object of affectionate atten- tion on the partet Miss Annie Dean, of Mar- ble Alley, who parted from him with tears, and gave him loving remembrances in the shape of numerous kisses, and pledged her word to be true and faith‘ul to him until the end of his imprisonment ana receive him again with openarms. Mr. Ogden reported that he had collected $125, and had also found two citizens of the ward willing to furnish representative recruits by the payment of $100 in addition to the bounties now offered. Mr. Larner repeated that the quota was being reduced, but mot so fast as could be desired. He had visited the War Department, and from circumstances that he was not at liberty to state at present, it was his belief that the quota of this and other wards would be con- siderably reduced within a day ortwo. The meeting could rest assured that the committee ‘Were doing all that it was possible to fill the quota. But to be successful they must have money. Other wards, and Georgetown, were bidding high, and the Third Ward must ont- bid them. He believed that if five thousand dollars more were contributed by Saturday next, the whole number of men would be ob- tained. Messrs. Duval, Martin, Noonan, Bell, Nes- bit, and Loeb yolunteered to serve as addi- tional members of the recraiting committee. Contributions to the amount of $222, and after important debate, the meeting adjourned. piss Sra raat DrsTREssine Suicrpe.—Yesterday at noon, the body of Mr. Williar: Cross, an old and well-known resident of the Sixth Ward, was found dead in the stable of the Vongressional Cemetery, where he had hung himself with a Tope made fast to a beam. Mr. Cross was about 67 years of age, and had been a widower for some years, and made his home with his brother, Jeremiah Cross, who is the superin- tendent of the Congressional Cemetery. For some time past the deceased has been snffering with a disease which cansed him much pain, and frequently when suffering he would wish himself dead, and at times he was in a melan- choly mood. Yesterday be took breakfast with his daughter, near the Navy Yard, when he appeared in his usnal spirits, and about 11 o'clock went to the cemetery. About noon, some one having occasion to go into the stabie, found him hangieg to the beam, as above stat-d. Coroner Woodward heid an inquest vesterdiy atternoon, when a verdict was rendered that he came to his death by hisewn hands. Mr. Cross was known as a quiet, inoffensive man, and many years ago held the position of master mason at the Navy Yard. adidibako Tue DRAFT IN THESIXTH WARD.—Listeve- ning, after the adjournmentof the East Wash- ington Lincoln and Johnson Association, Mr. John Thompson, one of the committee ap- pointed by the draft meeting, made astatement in reference to the probabilities ofa draftin the Sixth Ward. Mr. T. stated that through the exertions of the committee the draft had been stopped in the ward until due credit is given. The committee had got certificates that 62 men, the names of whom they bad furnished, were in the service, and th would in all probahil- ity be credited, and any of these were not credited they hod a further list of 51 men for he authorities toacton. The wound was supposed to be at first fatal; but sheis now recovering. P. Hamer of a watch, and sentenced to the Albany penitentiary for three years.
