Mr. Wright re- ported that the collectors in the poorest section of the ward had returned $161.50, collected during the day. Mr. Sharretis reported $37. Mr. Larner said that as much had been said relative to expectations from Alexandria, he would explain the matter. Upon the forma- tion of this club, Mr. Angus said that Uol. Alex- ander, of the 2d D. O. regiment, informed him that he could farnish 100 men, to be credited tothe ward. Since then it has been asserted that those men were gone to Georgetown. their agents having bid higher. A gentleman went to Alexandria and saw Col. Alexander, who told him there were no men in his regiment who could re-enlist. In justice to Col. A. it ‘was proper to say that those men whose terms are nearest expired, have over sixty days to serve, and under the orders of the Department, they cannot re-enlist. No matier how well disposed Uol. A. was to aid in filling the quota of the ward, those circumstances prevented him. Mr. L. also stated that several geatlemen bad offered to furnish recrnits—two offered thirty men—bdnut upon looking for them they were not obtainable, the gentlemen stating that they could do better in Georgetown. Mr. L stated that there had been more applications yester- day than on any day before, and of those offered ten were rejected, nine from the navy and one trom the army. The committee in charge ot the business bad been untirmg in their efforts, but it requires more men tooperate successfal- ly, and they should be authorized to pay as high bounty as any ward or sub-district. The president closed his remarks by calling for volunteers to aid the committee to-day, and the following responded:—Messrs. Simpson, Wolf, Robinson, Steele, 1 Mudd, G. M. Tay- lor, 8. C. Heritage, Robert Smith, Johnson, Mercer and Taylor. Mr. Wo!f proposed to be one of a hundred to give #20. Mr. Curtis would be another. With these the proposition remained open for others. Mr. Steele moved that the executive commit- tee be empowered to pay as high bounty for recruits as any ward or district. ji Mr. Sbarretts thought it won!d te better for the committee to have an understanding and deal generously with applicants, but no: let it be understood that they would give exorbitant prices. Mr. Wolf favored the empowering of the committee tosuch an extent that they could compete with any ward or district. ‘The motion was carried. Messrs. Cooper and Kaiser reported that they bad been coliecting on their own authority for the ward, and the result of the day’s collec- Uons was £53.75. The President reported that the ward has more cash in hand and fewer men to furnish than apy other ward, and thought it very en- couraging. The collection at this meeting is $393.25, and the cellection still going on. Mr. Wolt’s first proposition not being filled, he offered another to be one of forty to give $5 cash in order to make the cash in hand even $10,000. “ ben eleven gentlemen had responded tothis call the meeting adjourned until this evening at 7 o'clock. The President announced the total of cash to be $9,674 in hand. Sa FourntH Warp Dagart Meeting ‘Last Nieut.—Mr.C M. Tompkins, trom tne finance committee, reported that since the previous meeting they had received $655 in cash and $o14 in subscriptions. Mr. Chauncty, of the recrniting committee, said that bimself and Mr. Donn had putin three recruits during the day at $2.0 each. Justice Walter announced that he nad put in two recruits, and had flve more who would be put in to day. Mr. A. L. Newton said he had had two men, but wus notaware that he could draw on the treasurer, and had to let them slip. Mr. Lyles reported that the committee to procure acopy of the enrollment had succeeded partially, aud procured a list of adout >). bey iniended to get clerks and continue the work. ‘fbis lst contained much vaiuayie in- formation, @rd on it were the names of citizens or other wards. Mr. W. E Morgan, from the comm ascertain the number of men enlisted general service, reported that they had called on the Adjutant General and were intormed that “men enlisted in the general service of tae United States army, as clerks, messengers, Ac, are pot entitled to either credit or tocal bounty since April 1, 1564. Application to the Secretary of ar might get the credit to this city.” * * * of : Mr. M. suggested that a committee now wait on cr communicate with the Secretary ot War in reference to the subject. In his opinion, if | che committee could be successful, aud the Ward offer a bounty to men enlisted in the general service subsequent to April Ist, 161, the quota ef the Ward woald not valy be filled, but also the quota of nearly every other ward. Mr. Morgan offered the following, which Was adepted: Resolved, That & committee be appointed to Wait upon, Or address a communication upon the sutject, to the Secretary of War, and re- quest tbat the men enlisted in the general ser- vice, United States army, subsequent io April |, i564, be credited to the quota of Washington, Db. Sutt, E. Edmonston, J. L. Barbour, and A. Lloyd. Mr. Lyles moved the appointment of a com- mittee to revise the roll, Aud ascertain aud se cure if possible the proper credits, and aiso to Tequest all persons who Dave turnished sub- stitutes to make known such fact to them. Mr. Lyles stated that from what be nad heard, he believed that nearly every meio of means tn the ward bad putin asubstitu’, and that if the | proper credits were giveu the ward would be nearly it not qaite tree The resolution was adopted, and Messrs. | W_E Mor- gan, J M. Johnson, and Juhu H. Linkemaa “= eppointed. Frank Herbert, B.F. M Hurtey. adopted : Resolved, That the treasurer of this associ- ation be and he is hereby authorized to puy the sum of $100 to each and every person who shall put in a substitute to tue credit of the Fourth Ward. _fo SE Drart MEETING IN THESIXTH WARD Last Niesat.—Mr. Jona Thompson, trom the com- revious eveuiug, find enlistments that had not been credited to the ward, aud afterwards visited the Mayor’s office. Mayor Wallach showed them a list of 60 names, 3: of which he was confident would be credited to the ward. They took the May- or’s list and went to the Navy Department and founa 26 names there, which Mr. Faxon, the Chief Clerk, certified were then in tne service. It all these mames were allowed by the Pro- vost Marshal, the quota ef the ward would be reduced to 13. The committee pi to visit Alexandria to-morrow and get the names of all who had enlisted in the District regi- ments. Some conversation ensued, wherein it was stpted tvat it would be impossibie to get credi for 8 man unless bis company aod the name o bis cap ain were desiguaied, Ail who knew of any one who bad enlisted ougat to report the pame to the commitice. He thought could await the return of it commissioner and thet could secure the names of those who had enlisted from the Sixth Ward. Mr. Toompson was satisfied the Mayor was doing all in his power, but he thought the commitiee should follow the commissioner up and secure all they could for the ward. eens CrmiInaL Count, Chief Justice Cartter.— On Tuesday, the District Attorney entered a wee are in twenty three cases, in some of which there were no witnesses to be obtained. Yesterday, Kate Warers, indicted for keep- ing @ bawdy bonse, submitted her case, and ‘was sentenced to pay & fine of $500. In the case of Jo:n W. Dowd, indicted for larceny, a rolle pros was eutered. David Connei, a soldier, charged with an as- sauit and battery, was found guilty, and sen- tenced to psy a fine of $5. It appears that t-ey bave been living together, and last night had @ row which caused a separation, and Batson, to geteven, made this charge. The case was heard this morning by Justice Boswell, when it was proved that Batson got half the profits of the Bouse, and he was committed to jail tor court to answer the charge he made against Mary, who gave security. } SSS Tue Firta Warp Exemption FUND As- SOCIATION had another meeting last night at Langley’s Hall, Mr. G. F. Gulick presiding, and Mr. R. B_ Ferguson secre'ary. Ap additional $350 was subscribed, making the whole amount thus far subscribed £3,100.
