LOCAL NEWS. AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT. Grover's TasaTae—The fine comedy of the « Rivals” is announced for to-night again. Its representation by the Warren Comedy combination is a treat rarely enjoyed, and those who wish to see comedy at its best should be present to night. The engagement of Mr. Warren and his combination terminate on Saturday night. . . e Vanrirtizs.—Go see Fitz Simmon’s “Female ket of Washington, or High and Low Life in the Capital,” ye who love sensation. There is a good deal of fun in the play, which is of a local character. The songs, dances, &c., are not neglected by reason of the drama. Cantrrscry.—Mr. Lea always has crowded houses. The reason is plain. he company is a splendid one, and the performances are rich, rare, snd racy. The Fowler Sisters, John Denier, John Mulligan, Billy Emmerson, Szol- lossy, Cavanagh, Dougherty, and the others, cannot be beat in their Tespective parts. Forp’s Tugatre A military drama, “The Deserter, or Military Execution,” is announced for to-night at this popular resort. Tbe Flor- ences have the principal parts, of course, and in their hands there can be no doubt of the success Of the play. The meeting was called to order by Mr. J. 5. Hollingshead, and Mr. N 1. Larner was called to the chair, and Mr. E R. McKean appointed secretary. . Larner remarkec on tating the chair that some of the draft officers had been con- sulted, and it was ascertained that the quota of the Ward now was but little over one Bun- dred. Since the first of the month, the enroil- ment of the District bad been reduced over 400, by the exemption of persons on account of er- roneous enrollment, &c. He thonght that the most feasible plan wasto appoint canvassers to solicit subscriptions, and he was satisfled thatit would work. One hundred men can be seeured for £16,(4"), Which could be raised, should every man in the Ward subject to draft pay $15, and he thought no one would refuse. a ian would be to offer a bounty of say two BD could be added the twenty dollars paid by the Corporation, and if more was needed, more could be obtained. Much had been said against the Corporation, when it had done all that it could do under the powers granted by Con- gress. Te save the city from the draft, im- Portant bills had been left unpaid, and the treasury nearly bankrupt. The Government pays $300 ere for recruits, to which, if added toa Ward bounty of $200, would make a bounty which would attract men. As for getting substitutes, that business was nearly played out, but he was satisfied recruits could be ebtained. Mr. R. H. Steele said that as sure as the sun rises the draft would come off on Monday next, unless General Fry had good reason to believe that the quota would be filled by volunteering. He was assured that the quota of the ward was not Dow over 120 and be thought a bounty fand of $16,0\0 amply sufficient. He suggested that a sum of money be deposited in bank, of which $50 would be paid to every man presenting a certifieate that he had put a man in theseryice, ard this would set men at work. Mr. Job Angus remembered that Col. Alex- der, of the 2d District regiment, had one or two hundred men ready to re-enlist if there was a bounty paid, and he « ested that Col. A. be consulteg in relation to the motion. Mr. Hollings d suggested the appoiniment of @ committee to to draft in the ward Mr. Steele thon ble to get the names, give him the exact 1 shal's office. Mr. Hollingshead quest, and was sure that Gen’] Fry would give them every facility. Ifthe list was procured every man could be called on for his $20. Mr. Angus did not believe that any man would refuse to give $20. A gevtleman stated that there were from three to four hundred of the 2d D.C. ready to re-enlist. 4 Mr. Hollingshead moved the appointment of & committee to confer with Col. Alexander: which motion prevailed, and Messrs. Hol- lingshead, Merchant, and Angus were ap- pointed. . Mr. James Ward remarked that no man, if he was able, should refuse to give to this fand, and that although he was exempt from the draft, being in Government service, his brother and himself would give one hundred dollars each. [Applause.j On motion of H. Steele, a committee of ten to solicit subscriptions was appointed, as fol- lows: Z. Hunt, J.C. Parker, Edward Steer, [. Mudd, A. G. Hall, R. H. Steele, Robt. McMar- ray, at it would be impos they would at the Proyos i- W.B. Downing, E.R. McKean, G. E. F. Sharretts, and John Meigs. The following were designated as places where subscriptions to the tund can be left: rker’s, (periodical store,) F' street, near sth; ham & Co., 500 7th street; W. H. Pope, at the Republican office; Dr. 5. Tyson’s drug store, th and L streets; Dr. |] . Cassin’s drug store, 7th and M streets. Mr. Hollingshead moved a committee of three be ap, ted to wait on the Provost Mar- sbal, and obtain a list of those enrolled in the ward; carried, and Messrs. Larner, Steele and Parker were appointed. Mr. Job Angus was elected treasurer. ‘The meeting then adjournea. It is understood that the committees will commence their work this morning, as bat three working days remain for the accem- plishment of their objects. ———>—_. Szconp Warp McOCLeLran Crvp.—Last night the McOlellan Club of the Second Ward met in the Germania Hall, llth street, near F, to complete its organization. At the hour ap- poin' & quorum was present, and was called to order by the president, Mr. J. F. Haliday, Mr. W. J. Millersecretary. The meeting opened with nine persons present, which number was afterwards swelled by accessions to eleven, at which figure it remained for the evening. The president aunounced that the constita- tion of the National Democratic Association ‘was before them for alteration to suit the pur- pose of theclub. It was adopted. [The con- stitution permits any person to be proposed for membership who is fayorable to the nominees of the Chicago Uonvention, and if no objection is made he is constituted a member by paying $1 initiation fee; if objected to, he lies over till | the next meeting for election.) The club ordered that the meetings be pub- | shed in the Constitutional Union, Times, Intelli- | gencer and Star papers, and the president and secretary were authorized to make the ar- Trangements. This having been completed, Mr. Clampitt moved that the clup proceed to appoint mar- shals for the ward for the procession on the i7th, which was agreed to. Mr. Clampitt proposed G. R. Adams, who declined. After a few moments spent in trying toselect agentleman who wouldserve, Mr.J.W.Olam- pitt was appointed marshaland Mr. J.B. Scott assistant. Mr. Aiken, Chief Marshal for the 17th, was despondent at the ries ofa large turnout of the Democrats of the Second Ward, and could not account for the small meeting this evening, and hoped that the club would re- solve tiself into a vigilance committee and col- lar every Democrat and bring them up to the meeting to-morrew night. Mr. A. moved that the cecretary be anthorized to advertise the meeting to-morrow (Thursday) night, by large posters placed in conspicuous places. Mr. Adams was opposed to the motion sim- ply because after pry test ought reasonably to expect s meeting of hundreds if not thous- ards, and they woald feel extreme! af after all their posting they shoul but a small company. Mr. W. J. Miller remarked that the club of the Second ward had no reason te despond. The Lincolnites had a procession after the flag raising at the Mount Vernon House which con- Sisted of about 50, a majority of them soldiers. Mr. Clampitt thonght that the mortification should be felt in view of the Meeting to-night. If the posters wil! do any good for the meeting to-morrow nightlet ushave them. The motion of Mr. Aiken was rejected. It was ordered by the club that Mr. Adams be authorized to make permanent arrangements for the meetings of the club in Germania Hall. McClellan was of unexceptionabdle private character, he considered him as a military man a good deal ofahumbnug. As to his political puscipee or statesmanship, he had made no exhibit by which we can judge. As tothe expectation that McClellan would get a large army vote, it was sufficient to say that not more than two-fifths of the Tetras army of McClellan ever served under McClellan, and as for the great army of the West, which believes in Sherman, Rose- crans and Thomas, that army would laugh at the idea of voting for McClellan. [Applause and laughter.) Mr. Prince proceeded to contrast the unhar- monious platform of the Democracy, with McClellan at one end and Pendleton at the other, and Vallandingham, Wood & Co.,, scat- tered around miscelianeously thereon, with the harmonious Union latform, bearing Abraham Lincoln and glorious Andrew John- son.
