LOCAL NEws. AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT: VARIETIES —Those fond of plays, decidedly sensational, shouid by no m+ans fail to visit the Varieties and see “The Helle of Washing- ton” performed. She was very severely injured, and was taken away isensible. Captain J. R. Stone, of 7h seet barracks, V. R. U., followed Witmayer 4nd had him arrested by officer J. 0. Johnson, Third Ward, who carried him before Tustice Giberson, who is acting for Inetice Tnompson, of the Sixth Precinct. Horse Stealing —Tuesday afternoon, a man named James Mils'ead was arrested for the jarcepy of a horse belonging to H. J. Baker. ‘The horse was taken from an alley in the rear of Raker’s feed store,on High street. Milstead ‘was followed by officer Jones, who arrested him with the colt about a mile avove Ternal- Jytown. The owner values his colt at 250), and Milstead said he was going to Rockville, Mo., where he intended to advertise the ani- malas an estray. A female named Lucinda Jeunes ocenpied the room with him; and this Morning Brown found her lying om the floor, with his pants for a pillow, and his money gone. He bad his room mate arrested. She admitted that she picked up a note from the flocr and be it under the matting. Search ‘was made, but the maney was not found. Af- ter a hesring of the+ videuce, Justice Clayton €eferred judgment THe Rancue BurNT.—Last night, about 94 o'clock, the notorious rancbe kept by Jake Feigh, at the corner of 17'h ind F streets, was burned to the gronud. This was the ranche from whence the paruics were taken who were suspected of the murder of the wounded sol- dier, Charles Dickerhoot, who was found dying ft the. gate of Kalorama hospital, on the 2d inet. There was no positive evidence, and the case was dismissed; but the men were turned overtothe military. The house was ano!d brick two-story basemeut, and the fire was coubiless caused by an incendiary. The loss is small. i GRAND LABCENY.—Tuesday afternoon, John Fremont. colored, was arrested by officer Boore..on the charge of stealing 350 from Mary Johnson, colored, residing in the neighborhood known to the police as “Contraband Hell,” (llth and Boundary.) The parties reside next to each other, and during the absence of the woman her room was entered, and a trunk opeved and robbed of the above amount, and some persous saw Fremont in the room.
