LOCAL NEWS. AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT. Cawrrrsvey.—Manager Lea, with charac- teristic determination to please the public by the production of none but the best talent, has engaged Mr. J. H. Ogden, a splendid delinea~ tor of Irish character, and Mons. Szollosy, the dancer and maitre de ballet, who will appear to-night. Sallie Sunderland, the esner Sisters, Mulligan, West, Williams and all of the old favorites are still upon the boards. Forp's TuzaTsn.—The celebrated Christy Minstrels, famous the world over for their Amusing entertainments, will open at Ford's ‘Theater to-night for a short season. The Cbristy Minstrels have been well known ever since Ethiopian entertainments came first into ‘vogue, and this Company has by reason of a judicial decision, the or Tight to claim the title of the “original” Ohristy Minstrels. The pill for to-night is a good one. VARIETIES.—The manager of the Varieties Hall to-night serve the exciting local drama, <The Belle of Washington,” which had such ‘am immense run at this resorta few d ‘The play seid to depict scenes which occurred is city ; scenes representing the Gangers and excitements of life'in the Capitol. ‘The cast of characters is a strong one. pe Suwpay Rror.—Yesteraay evening, about 14 o’elock, & disgraceful riot o¢¢ntYed in the Northern Liberties, about 3d street. Thecrowd congregated would number a thousand men From the evidence it appeared that the fighting began at a stable on L street, near 3d. Some boys were taking horses to water. Two white boys got on the horses, and the others tried to get them off, which began the fight. It soon increased to a general row, white and colored rsons running to the spot, and stones were rown. Several white men were knocked ‘down. The rioters moved down to the corner Of 3d and K streets, and the house occupied by Maurice Sullivan, white, next to the corner, and the house next door to Sullivan, were smashed with stores thrown by the rioters. Stones were thrown from the windows of the house next to Sullivan's, which was occupied by.colored persons, and this caused the stones to be thrown at these houses. Roundsmen Kelly and Eckloff, and patrolmen Crook and Crown arrested Patrick Enright, white; James Johnson, Wm. Brown, Ohas. Gibbons, Samuel Hall, Randolph Williams, Alexander Thomp- son. and Frank Bailey, colored. Gibbons was charged with being engaged in the riot, and with knocking down a white man; but it was shown that another man knocked the white man down, and Gibbons ‘Was notin the riot. He was dismissed. There ‘was no evidence against Williams, aud he was dismiseed. The others were held to bail for their appearance at the Criminal Court. The bail required is $300 each. About #% o'clock at night another riot oc- curred on 2d street, near Massachusetts ave- mue. It commenced by a soldier insulting a female. Calhoun. It was identified by certain notes writen by Mrs. Clements at the store of Jackson & Bro. It also contained two #20 notes. Mrs. Clements was robbed either in the street cars or in the market house. ‘There is still another pocket-book, containin, money, which was probably stolen from dii- ferent persons, remaining to be identified. | 0’¢!eck Roundsman Kelly, who performed the search- ing operation, went to the prisoner's residence, one room, 6th street, between A and B east. ‘The room is elegantly turnished, and all the clothing (male and female) was of the finest quality. Her husband, she says, has been a soldier, and was discharged, and is now look- ing for employment. The only thing in the shape of money found at the house was a roll of Confederate £10 notes in a morocco bag, which was not taken. ARREST OF A NoToRious Gana or Gruan- ACK CoUNTERFEITERS.—Sixteon individuals, all counterfeiters of U.S. Government notes; arrived in this city frem St. Louis, where seer had been captured several days ago by Uol Baker, chief of military detectives, and a corps ofassistants. They were all committed to the Old Capitol prison. Greenback manufactories of the denominations of fifty, twenty and ten dollars, and fifty cent currency notes, were discovered at Si. Louis, Uoyington, Ky., and Nauvoo, Ill. while the principal establishment was at Indianapolis, Ind., where an entire fam- ily of six or seven persons were engaged in the printing and trimming of the notes, which are all good imitations of the genuine ones, the paper, howeyer, being inferior. Plates, eleven presses, paptr, ink, &c.,and dies for forging twenty-five cent metallic pieces, the latter being circulated in Mexico and other countries, Were also captured. A very large quantity of the spurious paper has been secured and is in Washington. Much of the same manufacture has found its way into the hands of soldiers in the West, agents for its sale and circulation being established in yarious localities. The precise extent of the fraud is not yet known, but it is believed mil- lions of the counterfeits are in circulation. A passenger who was on the traininforms us that the guard fell tnto a doze and the counter- feiter slipped the irons from his wrist and sub- sequently frem his feet and leaped from the train while it was in motion.
