After the per- forma:ce of several appropriate airs, calls were made for Mayor allach, who in a few moments hy eee and apologized for not mak- tug & speech, tnauking them for the compliment ‘which was more flattering because he recog- nized the faces of those who had an interest in the afairs ot the city. This was not the first time he bad received their approbation, and he hoped to merititin the fature. Mr. Wallach again retarved his thanks and extended an in- vitation for his friends to meet him around the table, which was immediately accepted, and some timé was spentat nis hospitable table. Many of the Mayor's friends tendered their congratulations presenting him several large and handsome boquets. The company atter cheering the Mayor, ceeded to the residence of Asbury Lloyd, 4.5 President of the Common Council, when after several airs had been pertormed that gentleman made his appearance, and althoagh laboring under & severe cold made a neat little speech, returned his thanks and advised them all to meet him at the Lichau House where he would conclude, and on the company proceeding to TO- that piace they found that he was Teady to ae em with & bountiful supply of refresh- en The company then proceeded to the residence of Alderman Pepper, where several pieces ‘were performed, but that gentleman was out of town. The band then proceeded (followed by a large crowd) to the residence of Jos. F. Brown, | Esq., President of the new Board of Alder- men, and Mr. Brown made his appearance and thanked the serenaders for the attention thus shown him. He paid a high compliment to Mayor Wallach asa man and a municipal officer, and predicted that his coming adminis- ira ‘ion of the affairs of the city would redound | t. the best interests of Washington. The Third Ward was also bighly lauded forits loyalty anc the interest its people have ever taken in | the city’s welfare. At the conclusion of Mr. | Brown's address the party were invited to the Metropolitan Restaurant, on Tenth street, ‘where a splendid collation was spread, and all ‘were inviied ‘o a feast of good things, Toe band then moved across the street, aud serenaded Mr. Thomas A. They were then mvited to the restau. rant of Mr. Lorch, corner of Sth and E streets, ~where the entire ward delegation, Messrs. Brown, Lewis, Larner, Stephens and Skirving assembled, and the whole party partook of a handsome collation quickly prepared for them Here Aldermen Brown and Lewis were each presepied with @ beautiful bouquet, the gifts @f ladies of the ward. While we are all eagerly longing for prosperous results of the gallant efforts now making for the suppression of the rebellion, I #m so anxious that I prefer to wait for the happy consummation for whichI most de- voutly pray, looking to Him alone who can give us the victory, rather than make speeches upon what is tran+piring.
