Gideon Welles, Secretary of the Navy:—The gunboat Morse, Lieut. Commander Babcock, left bere Sunday, the 6th instant, at noon, to afford relief to Col. Dahigren’s party. Monday, 7th instant, at 7a. m., near West Point, the Morse picked up five men, who had been attracted by the Morse’s signal guns aud were guided tothe river by a friendly negro, who tarnished them with a boat. Four ot these were Col. Dahl- gren’s white soldiers, and one was his colored servant. They represent that Col. Dahlgren’s party ‘were surrounded by cavairy and infantry and that he was kilied and that they saw more than Cne-halfof his men afte: wards give themselves | up as prisoners. Ool. Dahigren’s servant says that hesaw the Colonel’s naked body, which had been stripped, with the ring finger cut off. The Crusader, Acting Volunteer Lieutenant Hays commanding, one of the several gun- boats sent after the Titan, came in here this morning and reporls that Com. Parker left the Piankatank last evening where he had seen the Titan burnt tothe water's edge and had cap- tured seven of Wood’s canoes. THE REBEL RAID IN THE CHESAPEAKE. The steamer Baltimore arrived yesterd from the Piankatark, whither she wenton Sat- urday to head off, if possible, the Titan, cap- tured near Cherrystone Point. The Titan, in charge of the Confederate raiding party, was Giscoyered about four o'clock on Saturday af- ternocn slowly hugging the shore; bat on reach- ing the month of the Piaukatank she increased her speed, and traveled up the stream. SAVAGE. ‘The Siar was im error yesterday tn crediting the general rumor that ibe store of Mr. Savage was closed in order to secure the property it contained, so thit the Government might: thus reimburse itself ior its alleged losses through him.
