Wyman has many new fea- tures which he nightly introduces—amoug | them, the Dancing Babies. es Laxceny Casus.—Last Wednesday F. ©. | White, Joseph Ostwald, and Henry Morton, aliss Skinner, alias Newman, whe had been arreated Py, Detectives Donaldson and Higley, of the Metropolitan Police, upon various charges of larceny, and held for a hearing, were brought before Justice Clayton for trial stip. m. The first charge was against White and Ost- wald, for entering the store of M. Cox, on ‘Bridge, near High street, Georgetown, and stealing from the drawer a sum of money, amounting to nd larceny. J. W. Horchell, clerk of the store, was sworn, and testified that on the 17th in instant the accused entered the store together. Witness was called to the rear of the store, and as he started Ostwald sprung upon the counter and took & seat near the money drawer. Two ger-. temen, one named Finnecomb, and the other, 4& customer, name not remembered, were in the store. Ina minuteor two witness returned and discovered that the accused parties had lett, the money drawer had been pulled out And (be money taken. Witness followed atter and had White arrested by a policeman; but White showed papers satistying the policeman | shat he was a detective under Capt. Scheetz, ; and unsettling hisown suspicion, and White Was not detained at that time. Detective Donaldson testified that by order of Assistant Superintendent Reed he got anorder trom ape Todd to take Ostwald. then in For- rest Hall prison. Took Ostwald from the prison and put him on astreetcar. Whilein the car Ostwald admitted that he stole $51 from_Hor- «hall, and that White was with him. White was arrested the succeeding cay by witness and Detective Bigley. Ostwald gave $4 for wine during the night. | Justice Clayton decided to hold Ostwaid for court, and White for further hearing in this case. The second charge was against White, for stealing % coat and pants from Felix Khan. Feliz Kahn identified the coat and pants as his property, and said they were stolen from his private room, on or about the isth iustant. Don’t know who by. Heslner, sworn.—Is employed in the store of A. Strauss. Knowsall the parties—Morton, White and Ostwald. They came to Strauss’s store together. Ostwald wanted a shirt collar, | and while witness was trying to suit Ostwald | with a collar, Morton went away. Witness | 1 i i i { { i believed the coat to be Mr. Strauss’s property, but could not be positive, as the private marks were removed. Detective Bigley testified that when Morton ‘was srreated he (witness) questioned him ! about his clothes. Morton replied that he had no clothes, not a change. Witness then went to Mrs. Tilghman’s and asked Kate Seymonr if Morton had not left clothes with her. She said | he had, and produced them, and among them | was this coat. Kate Seymour testified prat Ostwald and Mor- ton came to Mrs. Tilgtiman’s. Ostwald gave the coat to Morton, and Morton gave it to her to keep till Ostwald came tor it. i The Justice decided to send this case to court. | ‘The examinations having ended, Justice Clay- ton made out commitments for all the prisoners. Ostwald dnd Morton for court; and White fer further hearing. In the meantime, opportuni- ty was offered the latter to get ball. If all should give bail, they would still beheld by the military authorities. White having been acting as a military detective; Ostwald admit- ting thathe is a substitute deserter, and Mor- ton suspected of being a deserter. All will receive @ thorough examination. ge Graxp Lagcmniks.—Alice Pleasants was arrested last Wednesday for stealing 2 lady's silk cloak, a lawn dress, and a child’s worked dress from Jos.
