A resolution was adopted instructing the at- torney of the court (R. R. Crawford, Esq. ) to institute proceedings for the recovery of such fines as have been imposed in the District tor forcible entry and detainer, and to secure all uch fines as may hereafter be imposed. Mr. Bowen, from the financecommittee, made # report upon the petitions of John A. Bartro!f: and Mrs. Isherwood asking to be relieved of ‘payment of taxes on their farms. ‘he committe state that some action should be taken forthe reliet of the petitioners and others whose property have been wholly un- Piogueny @ by reason of the occupation o! their lands by troops or by depredations. It is un- reasonable to compel the payment of taxes on such property, as such a course would result in confiscation or entire loss to the owners of many tarms in the District, which were before the war a source of income to them ‘beyond the support of their families. This source being entirely cut off, it cannot be ex- pected that they shal! nay the came per cent in taxes as their r ‘ore 1: rtunate neighbors. The report clo: h the following resolution, which was 8 jopted, Resolved. That the collector of taxes be in- structer to postpone tue collection of the county tax for the present year assesoed against the farms of MM. Isherwood and Jobu A. Bartroff; ard that this court .vill, upon tie production of satisfactory proof in similar cas erant a une ; postponement. he Treasurer of the Court (N. An application of ©. Drexel, of the Smith- sonian, for permission to shoot insectiverous birds for scientific purposes, was refused on the ground that others might take advantage of the privilege. ——____ Forp’s New "THEATER. —This evening, Mr. J. Wilkes Booth, assisted by Messrs, Charles ‘W heatieigh, Harry Pearson, J. F. De Vere, and the “star” company at Ford’s, makes his | second appearance, assuming for the occasion his unrivaled role ot Pescara, in Shiel’s cele- braled tragedy of “The Apostate.” Mr. Har- Ty Pearson assists materiz ally in his inimitable delineation of “Old Delph,” in the comedy en- titled «Family Jars.” It should be remem- bered that Mr. Booth’s engagement is limited to twelve nights, other and pressing contracts precluding the possibility of a longer stay. During the week, Mr Booth will appear ina number of plays of great merit, among them Bulwer’s “Lady of Lyons” and the comedy entitled «« Money.” Also, as “Shylock,” in the “Merchant of Venice,” andin “Taming the Shrew,” being his first attempt at comedy on uny boards. Willard, of the Commissary Department, died in Brooklyn, New York, after a protracted illness, contract- edin camp. Capt. Willard was the oldest of the Willard brothers, who for years past have been classed with the bes: and most useful citizens of Washington. Abou twenty months ago he accepted an appointment in the Com- missary Department, and wis; immediately connected with the Army of the Potomac, and the constantattention which he gave to all the «aunties of his office, made him very popular ‘with the army, and his loss will be severely felt andregretted. Capt. Willard wasa native of Vermont, but in his lorg residence in Wash- angton he made an extensive circle of acquaint- ances, who highly esteemed and respected him. eg Serrovs AccIDENT.—Yesterday afternoon, a small boy, named Theodore Hitzline, about four years of age, was knocked down and run “over by car No. 44, on 7th, near L street north. ‘The child was taken to its home, in Goat alley, by Sergeant Skippon, and was promptly at- tended by Doctor Butt, who thought that though the child was severely bruised, and would lose a toe that was crushed, his lite is not in danger by the injuries. The conductor and driver are mot to blame. Sergeant Skippon saw the driver try to check his horses before the boy fell, and as the car was going down a hill it was impos- sible to stop the car with the brake in time to prevent the accident. carer i — SALE OF THE PRIzE STEAMER DiAwoNnD.— ‘Yesterday afternoon the prize steamer Dia- mond (the sale of the cargo of which was no- ticed yesterday) was sold at the Sixth street wharf by Messrs. Wall & Co, auction-ers. ‘There was a large crowd of merchants and shi owners present, mostly from Baltimore, Phil- adelphia, and New York, and the bidding was spirited, but she was knocked off to Mr. Thos. Clyde, of Philadelphia, for sixteen thousand doilars—a much lower aeore that it was esti- mated she would bring. It issaid that she will be used as one of the new line of steamers to be established from this port to New York. ———_——_ DRINKING ON AN Empty StomacH.—Martin Doyle was picked up last night drunk, and was taken to the Fourth Ward station. About $150 in Treasury notes were taken from his pocket. Mr. Comkline -was on his way to ihe Patent Dffice at the time. —_—-—_—_ Tue Lats C. T.
