Mrs. Farren will sustain the role of ‘Mrs. Haller” This will be followed by “The Honeymoon,” J. W. Waliack appearing as « Duke aranza,” and Mre. Farren as ‘ Juli- ap Forp’s TunatTex.—This is also a benefit night at Ford's, charming Maggie Mitchell being the recipient, and the «Fanchom” is announced for the last time. ‘The theater will therefore doubtless be filled; for the desire to witness this play continues unabated, and Maggie's triends always delight to honor her on a benefit night. A Notorious TuHixr CavGHtT.—Yesterday Detectives Barry and Kelly arrested Anna Butler, alias Mason, alias Mary Virginia Glascoe, in a shanty in Georgetown, on the canal side by Washington street. She has been in the habit of hiring himself to families in this city, a d invariably decamped soon after with such valuables as she could lay her ‘hands on. When hiring herself she would assume the name of Anna Butter, and assert that she lived at the Bary Yard. The police hhave been trying to find her for four or five amontbs, but hitherto unsuccessfully. Detec- tives Barry and Kelly, while on business in Georgetown about 11 o'clock yesterday morn- ing, and passing down Washington street to the canal, noticed three colored girls looking out of a window, and whose actions were very suspicious. The officers went tothe house and asked a colored man if any females resided in his family. He replied in the negative. The officers went to the upper partof the house, and immediately recognized the negress Anna by a description of her left at police headquar- ters. Mr. John D Bontz fully identified her as the girl who had robbed him some time ago of $3\0 in money and a gold watch and chain. The following ro} beries by her have been re- ported to the poiice headquarters at various umes: House of Julius Stine, No. 452 10th street, July 7th, value of money and jewelry, #114; ‘John D. Bontz, No. 501 Sth street, goid swatch and chain and £300 in money, July 31st; Mrs. Purdy, No. 379 New York avenue, $27 in money and silk Ss valued at 250, July 21st; Jobn Farreil, corner of 12th and B streets, Isl- and, amount not known. Mrs. Waldo, corner of F and ith streets, immediately opposite the jail gate, a large amount of jewelry and valuables; about June Sth, she robbed a gentleman, name bot remembered, on 10th or 12th street, Second Ward, of $70 in money. This girl is about 11 years of age, 4 teet 7 Inches high, dark copper color, and of pleasing address. She commonly ‘wore when operating, a dark shaker hat trim- med with blue, and a blue cape. Many other families have heen victimized by this slippery nuree, and the detectives request that they will Teport themselves at the Detectives’ Bureau, Metropolitan Police, No. 516 1th street west, to identify the prisoner. inn See WANTED, A PakBNT.—Last night, abouts o'clock, a willow market basket was placed upon the step of the residence of Mr. Nelson Henning, on.Sixth street, between G and H. A child of Mr. Henning came to the door, and looking into the basket, discovered that it con- tained asieeping child. Mr. Henning’s child became alarmed and gave a shrick, which at- tracted the attention of & well-known typo, swho was at that moment passing, and he picked up the basket.and delivered it into the posses- sion of Mrs. Jabes Wheeler, a few doors below Mr. Henning’s residence, who took care of the infant through the night. The child was a female, apparently about three months old, and appeared to pave been drugged, for it re- mained in asortof stupor all nicht long, but beautiful play of | | Magraw, James Donovan, Rosanna Magraw, | | | | | this morning was crowing and kicking in an exceedingly lively manner. In the basket was also a daguerreotype likeness of a gentleman, @ carte de visite, containing the likeness of two ladies, a child's night slip, a baby shirt. anda pair of mens’ shirts. ‘he child was well dressed. There. was also in the basket a blank sheet of foolscap paper: also a note addreesed to a gentleman, who is supposed to be the father of the child, but some one got hold of it ‘and refuses to tell to whom the note wis ad- dressed, or what was its contents. No one saw the act of depositing ths basket upon Mr. Henning’s step, although it was early in the evening, and the street was filled ‘with promenaders. The gentleman who picked ‘up the child, did so after having made ineffec- tual ap) to other bystanders to take charge of it. rs. Wheeler had not yet, this morning, fully made her mind as to what she would do with the little stranger. It is the duty of the Property Clerk of the Metropolitan Police to take all abandoned roperty into his poernen: and he is under heavy bonds for its ssfe keeping. Whether ‘this article will be returned to that officer, is mere than we can say. Probably as 4 note ‘was jeft with the child, indicating who is the father, the child will not be regarded as proper- Jy an article of abandoned property, and will mot be stored away with other goods in the official store-room. Officers Thompson and Lynch are endeavor- ing to discover the lost note,so mysteriously spirited away, andin that way they may dis- cover who is “the daddy.” ge Jury TRIAL.—Muss in Court.—On Tuesday, A jury was summoned to try the issue between ‘m. J. Hall and Mrs. Susanna Smith, before Justices Ferguson and Cull, ou the Navy Yard. J. E. Norris and J. L. Smith, Esq ppeared for the complamant, and S. Phillips, q., for the defendant. It was stated in the «ase as follows: Several months since the complainant purchased a housce in which de- fendant resides, and about two months sub- sequently they made a wriiten contract in which the defendant acknowleged herself a monthly tenant. The paintiff last month gave notice to her to move, but she refused. and Tuesday, as stated above, a jury trial was had anda verdict was rendered for the defendant. Mr. Phillips contended tuat the contract was signed by her when she was ignorant of its contents. z During the irial, Mr. Norris charged that some statement made by Mr. Phillips was un- hen the jatter seized the former by the » and was abont wading in, and for a short time considerable excitement prevailed, but Sergeant Clark, who happened to be near, commanded peace, and through the influence of friends, the trial was proceeded with quietly. ——— Suppen DgatH.—Wednesday night, a man fell upon the pavement on E, near Tenth street, with convulsions. He was taken to the Third Ward station-house by Officer Noonan, @ided by some citizens, where he received such attention as the officers were able to give. During the night he had ceveral conyulsions, and the officers sent for Dr. Keasby. From the symptoms, the doctor decided that the conval- sions resulted from intemperance, and the offi- cer in charge of the station agreed with the doctor, although they crtected no smell ot i Upo> searching him, the , @. silver watch and u pen- knife; also a paper, which showed that his name was Chas. Plucher. and that he had been at Emrich’s Hotel. Upon inquiring at the hotel, the officers ascertained that he was known to the barkeeper and others at the ho- tel; and that he has relatives at the North, and had property worth several thousand dollars. He was removed tothe hotel, where he was comfortably provided for, but died yesterday. The body was to-day embalmed by Drs. Brown & Alexander, and the remains ‘will be sent to Philadelphia this evening. a A Mvss AnouT A BRIpB.—About two weeks since, Samuel McManus married Miss Agnes Miller, who resided with her parents at the corner of First street and Virginia avenue, and the young couple succeeded in keeping the matter a secret from the old folks until a day ortwosince. On Tuesday Mr. Miller hitched a horse to a wagon, and was about to spirit the bride away, when McManus, who had been informed of the state of affairs, made his ap- pearance and took his loving wife trom the ‘wagon, from which, it is said, she willingly came ; but during the operation an altercation took place between the parties, and blows were dealt. Miller procured a warrrnt for the ar- rest of McManus, and he was taken in custody by officer Weeden and carried before Justice Boswell, who held him to bail for a further hearing, but subsequently the parties compro- smised the matter, and the case was dismissed. —sa——_ Warp Station OasEs.—Chas.
