THE EVENING STAR. NEWS FROM THE REBEL ARMY IN TEXAS. Gen. Magruder Killed by one of his Officers —The Texans Mutinous and Desperate— They have te pat a Guard ever Them. An officer =e came Feteed = ae Ci esterday gives us fol.e' ig informa- thor a rr eS the position of affairs inside the rebel lines. He conversed with the desert r himself, and we vouch for the authenticity of the news, so far as he is concerned: ‘The deserter is from Byron’s Texas regiment, and came into ear City on Sunday last, He states that on dress parade, at Vermillion- ville,on Thursday, the 27th ult. it was_an- nounced to the troops, by or ter of Gen. Dick Taylor, that Maj. Gen. Mugrt ier had been shot and killed in Galveston a week previously. The shooting was done by one of Magruder’s lieutenants, who caught the General ina crim- inal relation with his wife. He had had his suspicions aroused some time before, but until about the tame the murder was committed, had never been abie to fix the crime upon him with absolnie certainty. if this news should prove true, it is bat &mother instance of the moral turpitude which séems to have grown with the treason of so many of the rebel leaders. The causes are pre- coe similar to those which cost Van Dorn “The deserter also stated that the whole rebel force in Louisiana does not amount to more than 10,000, and they were scattered from near Berwick City to lousas and Alexandria. They are all nnder command of Taylor, whose bend quagiens are at Camp Bisland. It wag rumored among the rebel troops that Kirby ith had returned from Arkansas and ‘was'gt Shreveport, but it was not positively koown. It was not stated whether he had any men with him. The regiment to which the deserter belonged, Byron’s Texans, numbered over three hundred rankand file, less than a month ago, but when he left they had all deserted but sixty. Two other Texas regiments—Stone’s and Lane’s—are in open mutiny, and declare that they will fight no more, as the Contederate cause is hopeless. On Sunday, the 23d ult. three regiments of Louisianans were dispatched from Vermillonville to Camp Bisland, where the mutineers were encamped, for the purpose ef guarding them and keeping them from run- ming away. The rebels are represented to have Plenty. of beef and corn, but the privates are dispirited and clamorous to go home. This seems to be the condition of all the rebel armies at present, and the beginning of the end is evidently not far distant.—N. O. Era, Sept.1. Another Speech from Darcy McGee. QuEBEC, Sept. 12.—In the Canadian Parlia- ment the militia bills have passed to a second reading. Darcy McGee made another speech last night, and in alluding to the military preparations of the Federal government at Kennebec, Rouse’s Point and Cleveland, declared that Canada must immediately prepare for defense or delib- erately proceed to Americanize herself. - Biockade Runners. Toronto, Sept. 11.—The Times publishes a @:legram from ( uebec, stating that the steam- ers wmansvilie and Caledonia are under- wtood to be fitting out at Quetec to run the southern blockade.
