AMUSEMENTS TO-NIGHT. . ~* Wasaisctroy THEaTsR.—Miss Susan Denin to-night takes a benefit, and offers Shakspeare’s play of « Romeo and Juliet,” Miss Denin her- sel aring 38 * Romeo.” Miss Sophie Gim- ber, orite hare, will give her aid upon this occasion. The musical comedietta of « Jenny Lind, Miss Gimber will sing a variety of songs and Gaace & negro breakdown. Between the plays the Forrest Sisters will entertain with dancing end singing. Forp’s THRATRE.—The “Naiad Queen” will be performed to-n: , and in the same effective manner which for many nights has tended to draw such crowded houses. Maziager Ford has an excellent company, and he has-placed this fine dramatic pageant upon the boards in sn unexceptionablemanner. To- morrow afternoon there will be a matinee; the performance commencing at 2 o'clock. CANTERBURY has been & very attractive re. sort this week, for each night most excellent bills were performed. To-night another fine entertainment will be given, and the pro. eramme will embrace A perfermer. There is some difficulty with the substitutes, many of whom haye to be watchfally guarded, and a very considerable force has to be employed in this city. JSS ss _ _ Reapy vor Sgrvice.—The capured steamer Neptune, a description of which has already been published, has had a complete overhaul- ing atthe Navy Yard, and her engines have been put in complete order. She has also been re-named the Clyde. On Wednesday her en- gines were subjected to a trial, and it is be- lived, from their working, that she will beable to make eighteen or nineteen knots per hour. They work so smoothly that there is no jarin any part of the vessel. She will no doubt rove to be one of the fastest vessels of our ‘avy. The following officers have been as- signed to her: Acting Master A. A. Owens, commanding; Acting Ensigns Geo. Dunn, and ©. F. Watson; Master’s- Mates C. Palmer and G. Dexter; Second Assistant Engineers OC. Stevens and J. D. Rodgers; Third Assistant Engineers W. O. Saville and Jas. B. Lucas. The Primrose, which has been on the ways Tecently, has been put in complete order and is now ready for service. We are una- ble to ascertain the loss, or further particulars. Guerrilla Shot—Yesterday a guerrilla was captured near Accotink, who last evening as the guard was bringing bim in, attempted to escape. He was commanded to halt, bat paid no attentien to the order; the guard then fired, and repeated the order; seeing that he was reckless, and would not stop the guard again fired, this time Killing himinstantly.
