Se A Srriovs Row.—About!@ o'clock Saturday night a wry severe Mght came off in the noto- rious houre, No. 291 D street, Second Ward, which disturbed the respectable neizhbors, and caused much commotion in the street. The <ries of “murder” and + watch” reached the ears of detectives Bigley and Barry and patrol- man Neilson, who immediately rushed into the house. The officers took possession of the doors, and, showing their official badges, de- clared tha! no one should leave tull they ascvr- tained the cance of the row. Two powerful young men, »amed Napoleon Brewer and John Olancy, mad: a desperate resistance, and tried toescape. Officers Bigley and Barry clang to them notwiths!anding they were struck by the surrounding party. Brewer managed to get out, and ran, but WAs retaken on the ayenue, and, with Ciancy, was locked up in the sta- tion-house. Sunday morning the case was laid before Justice Clayton. Clancy came ont of the cells somewhat bloody, but not much cut. Brewer had several cuts on his head, indicating acscvere figh!. From the evidence of the girls, in Shpesred that the fight was started with a emal!l] man. name unknown, by Clancy. Ac- cording to one girl's statement, Clancy bad the small man down, and was ‘‘ eating his nose;” and anothersays that while thesmall mag was down Brewer kicked him. The small man naged to get away and escape. Justice Claytep fined the two prisoners $5 each for fighting. Ronndsman Mattingly inquired into the origin of the affair, and reported that tha Eeowetatiees (Madame Joe is the name she is own by) started it by persuading one party pet another ont; but the evidence was not sufficient, or he would have arrested all the in- mates. He also reports that a similar disturb- ance occurred in that house the night before. ee A Dusgevep Compiiment.—Briz. Gen. J. H. Martindale, the popular Military Governor of this District, received a serenade on Satur- day night last Dy the officers of the Second D. . and the 178th New York Regiments. The band used on the occasion was that at- tached to the Second District Columbia regi- ment, Col. Alexander commanding, and its performances were mo-t excellent. On arriving at the residence of General M., several airs were rendered in excellent style, @fter which the General made his appearance, ahd in @ pertinent address acknowledged the compliment tendered him. He concluded his Temurks with an appeal to those by whom he Was surrounded t» steer clear of all factional feelings, and remembering that this war had for its object the restoration of the Union and the saving of the old flag from pollution, to fall in with every measure that would advance theee encs, and spurn down everything that i would hinder them. This sentiment was re- ceived witb hearty applause. Gen. Mar'indale then extended an invitation to “come in,” which was accepted. and atter an hour orsosprntin profitable conversation | and in dis: ussing the hospitatities of their en- tertainer, the party dispersed.
