mah MORE ABOUT THE FASHIONS. [From Le Follet; of Parie.} In the same degrees the Season advances, so the taima establishes itself with unuouvted authority: and we expect (hat within anoter | month it will Teign almort exclusively. It must be admitted that its form is equally con- venient and graceful. The talma is often made of thesarae material as the dress, or in white or black wdolen Jace, Lack tafetas, and eyen tulle. The blacis lace ‘a}ma must be trimmed with agarniture of guipure, The tulle tala, so suitable for verv warm days,is covered with several rows of graduated laces, eteW headed with a narrow ruche cr passementerie. Care should be taken not to make those frilis too full. Refore conetunie, more orifss, & visiting. toilette, is Weil to enter into some particulars rel to da mode of the present time, the distinguish- ing style of which is in some years the ciassi- ca}, in others the picturesque. The tashionables of this day have adopted the Louis XV. style—the raised skirt over a colored petticoat. The long trains no longer sweep the dust or mud from our streets; shoes, beote and stockings must, therefore, form an eseential part of the toilette, Some ladies have been seen in Ruseian leather boots, laced up the Trout with leather tassels, and high heels. The petticoats, zlso, should suit in color the dresses with which they are worn. The most nsefnl petticoats is of white Emglish wool, with a and of bright plsid. Unity of tint aud ornamentis quite in vogue; €ven the bonnet, boots, gloves, must all be of the same shade. Pardes<us are made to fitthe back, and open in front, trimmed on the shonider with floating ribbons, jockeys of passementerie, black lace, or guipure. Many of our readers prefer secing tie toilette in detail, being able in this way to choose, as well as better to understand, la mode. We will, therefore, describe them, Robe of taffetas, of the new shade of brown, «rimmed with insertions placed zigzag, and in exch hollow a chou of narrow brown velvet. Corsage 3 basque postilion, edged with inser- tion, Sleeves with elbow. Bows of velvet on the front of the body; and others up the seam of the sleeve, between rowsof insertion. Bon- net of erinolive, with crape curtain covered with black lace. Wheatears and corn, ued with black velvet ribbon, and long floating ends of the same, ornament one side of the crown. Robe of corn-flower blue taffetas, trimmed with pink fonnces, separated by broad chi- corees. The body is trimmed with narrow ehicorees. Robe of taffetas,in checks of blackand white, trimmed over the hem with 4 broad guipure insertion over white ribbon. The body is trimmed to match. Belgian straw bonnet Sith afanchicn of spotted black tulle, forming a Maria Stuart pointin tront, trimmed witb small rosebuds. Robe of white takov, with a broad band of vViclet taffetas, trimmed with a wide braid plac- ed above the hem. Collet to match. Crinoline bonnet, with curtain tomatch the trimmings on the robe; tufts of violets, anemones and green grass placed on the summit. Robe of mohair, of the seretan ener; crossed. with tbreads of black. A goflered flounce, xbout six inches wide, with a band of blue tafietas, edged with black braid; above this is a Tow of pattes of tuffetas, about three inches apart. The body hasa basque behind, and waistcoat front trimmed toimitate an open jacket with roches of the same material of the dress, surmounted by an ornament of taffetas much narrower than that on the skirt. Straw bonnet trimmed with blue bells. This last dress is snitable for a very voung lady. Another, of the same description, is of a gray takou, trimmed witn fiverows of black velvet above the hem. The body trimmed to match, lorming a postillion jacket. ‘The sleeves are cut with an elbow and drawn in at the bottom. ‘The collet is trimmed to match the dress. An exceedingly pretty dress is of drab or lemon colored mohair, trimmed with gradu- ated velvets on the bottom of the shirt and col- fet. Nasrow stripes and checks are much used for young ladies’ dresses. The bodies are ent low and square in front, with bouffant sleeves, and worn over & chemisette of tucked muslig with pafed tle r' White Gresséé dre much worn. Plain maslins are made with three goffered fiounces, or one broader one with a bouillonnce above, or, still more fashionably, with ornaments of black guipure. Muslin dresses over bine, lilac or pink taffe- tas are becoming quite in demand. These robes are made high, and the camail or scarf is lined ‘with the same color as the skirt. The bottom of the skirt is trimmed in various styles, some- times with fiuted flounces with a heading, or with a cimple kem, and insertion of Valencien- nes, or ¢ Shoe mixed with narrow frills of muslin. ese robes of organdi, lined with colors, are worn for carriage drives, wedding visits, or evening dress. A broad sash of taffe- ias, fringed at the ends, is now worn with this tarlette. ‘White alpacas, or foulard shanghai, are trim- med with colored flounces or braided in colors. Plaid tailetas are also used as trimmings on whie alpaca. The burnous, the camail, and the paletot are made of the same material as the dress. These should be accompanied by the postillion hat of gray straw colored feathers. The organdi dresses over colored silks are al- ways worn with rice-straw,-crinoline, chip, tulle, crape, or Italian straw bonnets, lightly and elegantly trimmed. Wehave noticed a very elegant sea-side olored taffetas, trimmed with ther, with steel edgings, be- au deep fringe of thick silk, nearly reaching the bottom of the skirt. The bedy, which was crnamented with leather bands to match the skirt, was opened over a Waistcoat of plaited ace placed on the edge of rich insertion; flat sleeves, open to the elbow, trimmed to match. A leather purse, ornamented with steel studs, ‘was snspended to the leather belt. A coligny bat, or Italian straw, with the edge cover.d witb velvet the same shade asthe dress. a feather to match, turned round on one side, was attatched to the crown by a band of leath- ed with steel clasps in front. writing about guaze dresses, which | cambric, with a jabot of | o FrIcTaL. ude of patter Distriet of | Columbia will ‘meet’ at the Olty "AA; 'eve: day, from 9's,.m. t.6 p. m., until farther no- | tuce, to examine eases of drafted men, either for exemption or acceptance.
