After a voluntary by the choir, portions of Scripture were read by Rev. E. W. Syle, of ‘Trinity Church, and prayer offered by Rey. E. . Gray, of the E street church. Addresses were made by the President, Hon. Peter Parker; Rev. Dr. Taylor, Secretary of the American Bible Society; Rey. Dr. Morsell, relative to the hfe of active usefuiness and em- inent Christian character of the late president, John P. Ingle, bee and by Rey. Mr. Pitcher, missionary of the Y.M.C. Association, relative to the distribution of copies of tha Scriptures in the army, on the gunboats and other vessels in the Potomac, and among the Quartermaster’s men, And others gathered in large numbers in and around this city. An abstractof the annual report was read by the Secretary, which developed many inter- esting and encouraging facts, which may be noticed another day. _ Appropriate resolutions were adopted rela- tive to the various subjects introduced; and atter uniting in singing the Doxoiogy, and the yenediction pronounced by kev. J. Thrush, of McKendree church, the meeting adjourned. agi SES Strawnrsenry Featty ‘The ladies are making the most of the ‘berry season, and no less than six festivals, in different localities, gre announced for this evening, viz: At St. Paul's English Lutheran Uhurch, corner of Eleventh and H streets; at old Trinity Hall, on Fifth street, by the ladies of the Calvary Bap- tist Church; at Wesley Chapel, corner of Fifth and F streets; at Dr. Sunderland’s church, Four-and-a-half street; and at Odd Fellows’ Hall, Navy Yard, for the benefit of Christ Church Sabbath School.* A splendid pro- gramme to choose from, and eno cannot weil go amiss, fer the ladies connected with ail these churches have exerted themselves to present something charmingly attractive in the enter- tainment way. A festival is aiso announced to take place at St. Ann's Infant Asylum, near the Circle; and this commends itself specially to all, for while the Sisters of Charity, with their characteristic taste, will give an unexceptionable enzertain- ment, the entire proceeds will be devoted to the interests of helpless infants. ——— WASHINGTON, ALEXANDRIA AND GEORGE- Town Rartnoap.—The annual meeting of the Stockholders of this company was held on the 6th instant, and Alexander Hay, of Philadel- phia,- Joseph B. Stewart and Silas Seymour, of Washington, Jos. Thornton, of Baitimore, and Charles H. Stewart, of New York, were j elected directors for the ensuing year. At a meeting of the directors, held on the 8th inst., Alexander Hay was elected president, Joseph B. Stewart secretary, and Charles H. Stewart treasurer. The railroad bridge across the Potomac has been commenced in good earnest. The first pier for the foundations was driven on the morning of the 8th inst., and the timber for the foundations and superstructure is being rap- idly delivered and manufactured by the con- tractors, S. S. Post & Co., of New York, who have agreed to have the whole structare com- pleied by the middle of November next. The cost is estimated at about $120,000. ———__ Carturu oy A Warcu Tarur.—On Satur- day, ex-detective A. E. L. Keese received in- formation that John Fredericks, a watchmaker and jeweler of Baltimore, had been robbed of several valuable watches and chains, by one of his journeymen, named Gustavus Naruhn. Mr. Keese immediately set to work to catch the thief, and yesterday he came across him in Georgetown, where he had engaged paseage in a steamer to New York, and uccused him of the theft, which he did not deny, and volun- tarily went with Mr. Keese to Justies Bates’ office, and egreed to ro to Baltimors with him withont @ requisition from the Governor of Maryland, and yesterday afternoon he was ttken over, He hud in his yalise five gola watches and several chains, beside a number of rings, and had sold two ef the watches in Baltimore. ee WEDDING AT Grace CHUBCH.—Another interesting wedding aifair took piace at Grace Church, Island, last evening, in the marriage of Mr. Charles Morgan to Miss Virginia Jones; Mr. Stephen Davis acting as groomsman, and Miss Laura V. Thomas as bridesmaid. The ceremeny was pertormed by Rey. Mr. Hoimead, rector of Grace Church. The greom is attached to the Navy, and the bride (second daughter of the late Capt. Peter Jones,) isone of the famed circle of Island belles, (and Known moreover as a charming writer for leading periodicals,) consequently they had both large numbers of friends to see them well united and to start them happily off on their bridal tour northward. Sn oe AREEST ON SusPicion.—Some days ago, the Tobbery of Mr. B. Magruder’s tailoring estab- lishment, on Tenth street, near FE, was noticed in the Ster. Detective officer Barry took the case in hand, and yesterday arreste Young, on suspicion of committing the act. A portion of the geods taken were found, and identified by Mr. Magruder. Mr. S.has been many years ex- perimenting on the improvement of the Portu- gal Sambuco grape and its manufacture into wine by a peculiar method of fermentation.
