DISINFECTING AGENTS.—Now that the warm weather is upon us, our citizens should thor- oughly cleanse their premises, rendering them us pure and healthy as possible. We are con- vineed that a great ao of the disease so prevalent during the hot months im summer, is. attributable to the accumulation of filth im alleys and yards. There are a number of disinfecting agents which will be found efficient in removing offensive smells from damp mouldy cellars, yards, pools of stagnant water decaying vegetable matter,&c. Either of the following will answer the purpose, while they cost but a trifle: 1, One pint of the liquor of chloride of zinc, in one pailfal of water, and one pound of chlo- ride of lume in another pailfal of water. This is perhaps the most efiective of anything that | can be used, and when thrown upon decayed vegetable matter of any description, will effectnally destroy all offensive odors. 2. Three or four pounds of sulphaw® of iron, (copperas) dissolved in a pailful of water will, in many cases, be sufficient to renfove all offen- sive odors, 3. Chloride ofjime is better to scatter about camp places, in , indamp cellars, and upon heaps of filth.—Setentific Americgn. — ee From New Yor®-To WasHtNneoTon.—Anar- rangement has beementered into between all the companies between New York and Wash- ington, securing a continuons double track rail- road the whole or nearly the whole distance, therely avoiding the change of cars, straight= bridging the Susquehanna, ana i bridging us cubes for bridges over the Bush Gunpowder creeks, and by the thirty first-class passenger cars, routé through as faras practicable, one com- plete line.—Phila.
