BurcG.aky AND DESPERATE ASSAULT C PON a Woman.—On Friday might, about 10 o'clock, the residence of Mr. C. L. Williams, a police officer in the First Ward, corner of Nineteenth and ]) streets, was broken into by the shutters being priced open and the window hoisted. Mrs. Wiliams hud set a shovel against an inner door, so that sho would be awakened by its fall when her husband, who was off duty at twelve o'clock, entered; and hearing the alarm, went down stairs, and the burglar made his way out of the window through which he en- | tered. She immediately returned to her room to dress herself, and the burgiar re-entered and followed her up, she entreating him to Jeave, nd threatening to shoot him: but be | and she jumped out of a wtih followed he: back window on a shed, when he made a turi- ous attack on her. By this time the neighbor- hood had become aroused, and the temsters watchmen atiached to 2 train ran ont and unded the house.
