BFE OUTSIDE FOR @BAPHIC AND OTHER MATTER. | "a7 The Now Doliar Weekly Star, foller than ever of Metropolitan news and gossip, and choice hwrary reading, is now on our counter feady for delivery tothe public. Ithasrecently been greatly enlarged and improved, and now @udoubtedly presents such more matter for the same amouart of money than any other cweekly in the country. Price only @hree cents per copy, or $1 per annum; postsge prepaid by stamps when so arranged. SPIRIT OF THE MORNING PRESS. The Intelligencer refers to the recent New | ‘York election, and the charges breught against Mr. Seymour's loyalty by the Republican press, @and says: “We have made theee references to the New York election for twe reasons: In the first lace, we would seek to guard against the pression that this popular demonstration mda anything like ‘disloyalty,’ as might be interred {rom the flippant accusations so con- stantly hurled against MroSeymour and all his eupporters in the late canvass. It is necessary ~ te make due allowance for the invective of our partisan polemics. In the second place, we ‘wish to call the attention of our readers to the fact that these harsh and ungenerous imputa- tions on the loyalty of men who merely assumed to differ from their opponents as to the best mins of saving the Republic, have simply redounded to the greater confusion and defeat of the party which has dealt in thix style of “‘argument.’” ‘The Hepudlican can't believe in the rest6ration of the Union “as it was.” It says: « We are radical enough to believe that this Urion can never be restored—the Union as it Wes, with slavery in it. It may be in form, but it will be no Wnion. Such a Union cannot exist, part free and part slave. There is an ‘irrepressible confiict.’” ‘The Chronicle argues that in the States where Slavery is best known, as Missouri and Dela- ware, the emancipation policy of the Adminis- tration has been triumphantly supported by the people in the recent elections. Ypune Savi, THe Assasain.—The power of the drama over the human sympathies was motably illustrated in the career of young Saul, executed for murder in New York in May, 1355 ‘The unfortunate young man—a mere lad in years, and whose case attracted much sympa- thy—declared in his speech upon the gallows that he once attended’a performance of the cel- ebrated moral play, “The Six Degrees of Crime,” Bad so deéply affected was he by its admoni- tions and its graphic illustration of the conse- quenees of crime that he determined upon Profiting by the lesson and abandoning his ca- rer of guilt. Unfortunately, he had not the Moral courage to carry out the determination, aad expiated his weakness upon the scaffold. ‘The play alluded to is to be presented at Ford’s Theater, in this city, Saturday night next. Jons Brit Gonep py tux Coxrrn Ox.— Upon the representation of the British Consul at New York that Capt. Semmes had disregard. ed the certificates of a British Consul, and in the face of theBritish Consular seal, regularly Affi xed to papers establishing the British own- @rsiudp of certain property on board of a vessel captured by him, had deliberately proceeded to burn that property with the vessel which con- tained it, Admiral Milne has ordered three British men-of-war in pursuit of the Alabama, With orders to overhanl her and convey her to some British port, where her violations of in- @rnational law may be judicially inquired inw. ®7 It is now positively given out that the @raft in the city of New York will take place On Monday next. The number wanted is Fonghly eBtimated al five thousand men. The Grawing will take place in the manner pre- Scribed by statute, at the Governor's room, in @he City Hall. If so, Gen. Mc@lellan will soon be betweem the portions of Lee's army that | have paseed down towards Gordonsville, and that portion remaining in the vicinity of Win- ehe=ter and Berryville, if there be more left there than may merely be sufficient to keep up the appearance of being In force in that quar- ter, until the retreat of the main body may be fairly accomplished. Gen. McClellan's pro- «ress down the east side of the Blue Ridge has evidently been much more prompt than Lee anticipated, as he has caught the latter's rear guard in halfa dozen different engagements, in which all of it has been worsted, with what OUR MILITARY BUDGET. i | | ' ' | ofa man named Munro, for the sake of obtain- , ing money which it was supposed the deceased parth iT loss is not yet known on this side. | Feel gure that our troops can operate far more ptly and much more effectively in such ‘weather as that of to-day, than the rebela can, we F¥joice to see upon us this, for eur lati- tude, quite unusual fall of snow early in No- vember. FROM MANASSAS AND WARRENTON, fee | THE ENEMY IN SOME FORCE AT WARREN- i TON JUNCTION, ge Sal 2" ea [Special Dispatch to The Star.} Mayassax Jrnetion, Noy. 7.—According to reports from the front of this commafid, the rebela were yesterday sending so heavy rein- forcements by rail to Warrenton Junction, that Gen. Patterson probably last night withdrew the force under him from Cedar run bridge, to the vicinity of Bristow Station, where he will be within easy supporting distance of the bal- ance of Gen. Sickles’ command. As I have no idea whatever that the rebels contemplate making anything of a stand east of the Rap- pabannock river, my belief is that the increase of troops at Warrenton Junction is caused simply by halting there for a few hours the rebel force on the day before yesterday at War- rmnton, who are probably now falling back (via Warrenton Junction) by rail. SAFETY OF THE STEAMER TRENTON. The missing steamer Trenton, alluded to as being miseing, in yesterday's Star, last evening turned up all safe, moored at the Washington Arsenal whart.
