SPIRIT OF THE MORNING PRESS. ‘The Intelligencer comments upon the Kearney letter disparaging his fellow-officers, and re- bukes the “cruel indiscretion” which gave it to the public. The Republican is devoted to Gen. Grant to- day. ee Pyersonat.— Senator Saulsbury is at the Metropolitan, and Senator Hale at the National. Washington Irving, U.S. N., and bride, and Miss Pen Gaskil, of Pa.; Col. W. Gurney and lady, N. ¥.; Col. Lee, Ohio; S. L. Hommedean and daughter, Ohio; Hon. Ira Harris, N. ¥; Col. J. S. McKeever, U-_S. A., are at Willards’. 7 The enrollment for New York city is com- Pleted. About 250,000 names are recorded. ‘There are uot more than 200,000 at the outside between the ages of 15 and 45; of these 75,000 are aliens; 25,600 are militia, firemen and other ex- empts by occupation, and 10,000 to 20,000 will ¢laim exemption from disabilities; so that when the lists are thoroughly revised, there will Be considerably less than 100,000 subject to draft. ‘The greatest number of yotes recorded is about 120,000, and these include all ages from 21 years. | @7 There is trouble brewing between Brig. Gen. Frank Biair and Gen. McKinstry, whose court-martial is now in progress at St. Louis. ‘The latter publishesa card in the St. Louis Re- publican which reads thus:—« Yielding to the advice of my counsel, I forbear, pending my trial, any other notice of the assaults made upon me by F. P. Blair, jr. in his recent address to bis constituents, than to say that his statements nd allusions, so faras they relate to me, are false—and he knows them to be false. At the proper time I shall notice him.” SF The State Department publishes a decree just received from the Government of Nica- Tagua, imposing restraints on immigration. | ‘One clause prohibits the entrance of «freed ne- Groes, or other degraded caste of people, unless they have a special permission for themselves, Or on Account of others, to go into the interior.” &7 The State of Delaware, it appears, has furnished her full quota of volunteers called for by the President on the 2d of July last, and, | in consequence, the Secretary of War has re- | i yoked and armulled the order for a draft of the mulitia. "7 Col. Charies H. Van Wyck, the Repre- entative in Congress from the Orange and Sullivan district of New York, dectines a re- nomination. He is in the field with his regi- ment, azid there, it is said, intends to remain. &7 Late letters from New Orleans report a large fleet fitting out there, but its destination is prudently withheld. It is to bé hoped that the information will be as carefully withheld from the enemy, 4s it is from the loyal States. SF The Mobile Tribune says that that place will certainly be attacked by Farragut’s fleet as soon ar he gets ready for action, which may be looked for at any me. SF It was rumored in Memphis, on October 9. that Gen. Price's. A@jutant had shot Gen. Van Dorn twoorthree days after the fight at Cormath. S7 The city of Vicksburg is said to have sent ina bill of damages against the Confeder- ate Government of ninety thousand dollars, for allowing it to be bombarded. SF On Saturday last a general parade and review, of the enrolled militia of St. Louis took place. Thirteen thousand soldiers were in line, aad the occasion was made a general holiday. &@ The Giimor House, Baltimore, has been taken by the Government for hospitz! pur- poses. 87 The total receipts of the American Col- onization Society tor the past month was S.06.62. In the 5th district, € nocrat. is reported to be elected o ES blican. by 194 inajority, and Coff- reth, democrat, over MePherson, ublican, in the 16th district by ahout 700. The demo- crats, therefore, gain three members in these districts, if the reports are correct. Li the Ith district, Jas. T. Hale, independent republican. who was supported by democrats, is elected over Armstrong, the regular republican nom- inee, and M. C. The Philadelphia Press of to-day says that | Myers (republican) has undoubtedly been | elected over Kline (democrat) in the 3d dis- trict, and that M. Russell Thayer (republican) ' is now said tobe elected over Carrigan (dem- oerat) in the 5th district by 72 majority. | The Philadelphia Ledger of to-day says: The anticipations from the first election re- turns received, that the State had gone by 50,000 majority in favor-of the National Union ticket, are not borne outiby the subsequent returns. The gains in the democratic counties have been large, and it is now doubtful whether the dem. ocratic State ticket wilt not have a majority. Curtin’s Tity in 1860 was over 32,000, and Mr. Lincoln’s was 59,000 over Breckinridge and 62,000 over all competitors. By the nnoflicial returns ten democratic members of Congress are elected, nine national Union, and one inde- Rees candidate, leaving only five to hear INDIANA. In the hurry of going to press yesterday we ‘were made to set down Messrs. Colfax, Julian, Dumont and Dunn (republicans) as all de- feated for Congress. What we intended to state, according to the tenor of telegraphic dis- patches received here, was, that the first three were believed to be elected and the last d\- Teated. OHIO.
