ALEXANDRIA ItEMs —We glean the following frou the Alexandria News of the 26th instant : the river as far as Crooked Point, and was cut off in co juence of low water, and compelled to return. All the distance up and back they were continually fired upon by bushwhackers. One Man onthe St. Louis was wounded. The rebel boat Van Dorn was reported up the Arkansas, aiso the Ponchartrain, but as the river !s low and falling fast, they can do no harm. ————_______. Sentences of Mail Robbers. Bancor, Mg., June 23.—The mail robbers who plead guilty in the United States District Court were this evening sentenced as follows: Andrew J. Sergent, ten years in the State prison, and Josiah Sergent nine years. Charles Allen, for robbing the North Branch post office in April last, was sentenced to ten years in the State Prison, and Geo: Whittier for robbing the mail in Readfeld in April last, eight years.
