H James Perry (colored) was placed on trial on a charge of assault and battery on Rose McCaldon. | The evi in this case was that on the morn- | ing of the alleged assault the Prosecuting witness, a white chambermaid at the Clarendon Hotel, came down to the kitchen to get hot water, and the defendant also came down, and seeing the | girl there observed to the baker that ‘‘ Rose was | sober this morning,’’ whereu; the girl ex- asperated, and dipping a c in the hot water she slapped the defendant in the face with it. The negro then struck her in the face in return. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Antoine Daum and Jacob Feig, convicted on Friday last of stealing two kip from Julius King, were brought into court and each sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. Bernard Donnelly, convicted of an assault and battery on Robert Cross, was sentenced to three months in jail and a fine of $20 and costs. Thomas Getley, convicted of stealing two coats, one from Mr. Aubert and one from Mir. Kean, two students in the Georgetown College, was sen- tenced to jail for six months and the penitentiary for fifteen months. To-day.—Noble Gray colored) was placed on trial on a cha: of setting fire to the livery stable of James H. Shreeve, whereby said stable was destroyed. Mr. Shreeve testified that his stable was burned. about 8 o’clock on the night in question, together | with hay, straw, provender, etc. Witness was in Dorsey’s tavern aod heard the larm, and ran out, and the flames were then bursting through wen ‘een the middle skylight of the loft. This loft was easily accessible by means ofastairway. Witness don’t know who was at the stable the time. Witness knows defendant, free negro. Witness has known him since he was a small boy. Mockabee, appeared before the justice for a fur- ther hearing of the case against them, in which they were charged with riot. The affair came off Friday afternoon last,in and about the Center vip Sao caused considerable alarm during its continuance. Bricks were thrown, and Dow- ling was badly burt by one of the missiles thrown. The dificulty of obtaining evidence was insu mountable, and the case was transferred to the municipal law, under which each was fined 15: Mary Bisck, (col’d.) was arrested by Police- man J. F. Carter, for being drunk and disorder- ly; sent to the workhouse for 90 days M. Henning was arrested for an assault and bat- tery on J.
