The public hai ‘disappointed in not seeing the out at the ‘morning parade, and therefore felt the more in- terest und pleasure in witnessing their maneuvers in the afternoon. The United States as- sembled and téok position isely a5 been ‘ordered in the morning, the fleld companies form- ing aline ty Pennsylvania avenue, opposite the ‘Center Market, and the foot companies in Four- teenth street, their right resting on Pennsylvania ‘tion was by Cols Brooksand which the programme intended to be carried out in the morning wis observed in all iculars. The three companies, by the cavalry, marehed up the avenue _ Fourteenth street, where they were oe by foot companies beaded by the com- ny Of Sappers and miners, and thus marched hrough the avenue to Sixteenth street, through Sixteenth street to H street, through H street to Seventeenth, and thence to Pennsylvania avenue, entering the western a) of the Executive Mansion. The President of the United States, beg beam BA ~ Bleck, and a bye wae? of other distingvishe stood on the pave- soent in front of the White House, and as the troops passed received the marching salute of the cfficers, the President remaining uncovered the while. The several companies then marched back to the place of formation, the infantry being dismissed and retiring to thetr several quarters. After the le the three field batteries proceeded to fire salutes of thirty-four guns each, at the fol-~ lowtng points : Magruder's battery in Seventeenth street, south of Winder’s Building; Barry’s bat- tery on the mall, south of the Treasury building; avd Griffin’s battery «t the City Hall. Ratber too much of a crowd at the Assembl: Rooms; but it is the fate of the National Gant Battalion to have big crowds. Cause—so many good-looking men belong to’em. Withers’ band made excelient music; jadies had no lack of partners for the dance, (nor the gentlemen either;) the night was auspicious; the hall so gaily deco- rated with banners of all nations that not to enjoy one's self would have argued a very fastidious disposition indeed, so everybody did enter upon the pleasures of the occasion with a zest. Beld officers of the militia were well re; during the night by Colonels Middleton, Tait, Davis. Cox, *chwarzeman, and Morgan, Major Waters, Major Wall, and’ others. Quite a lion among the uniforms, as well as with the ladies, ‘was the bandsome Orderly Sergeant (Pierce) of ‘the sappers and miners corps now stationed at the ‘Columbian Armory. The Infantry Battalion had a thoroughly so- clable and enjoyable soiree dansante at their new armory. The new drillreom has been hand- somely fitted up, and makes a ——- rendezvous for the members. The dancing hall is as cozy as bumaa {ngenuity can fashion such a place, and ‘we never saw a ball-room inaugurated by a more lively company of lidies and gentlemen. The music was excellent under Prosperi’s leadership The Federal Rifles also bad a merry time at ‘Franklin Hell. The company was not so numer- ous as at the other balls, but the enjoyment was every whit as great. Good order reigned, and ihe bali was kept up until almost breakfast tim: this morning. The Federal Rifles certainly un- derstand how to get up sociable entertainments of this Kind. Arth’s Band supplied their music, which was good. ‘Tus Union Reorwent Entertainment —After the parade yesterday, Company A, Union Regi- Ment, marched to their rooms in Temperance Hall, and, to their surprise and delight, found a Ddounteous repast prepared for them by the officers _ of the company. After the command “ break ranks—march,’’ they were welcomed to the table. Their appetites having been fully satisfied, a namber of spirited toasts were given for our Union, President Buchanan and Cabinet, the Army and Navy of the United States, the Presi- dent elect, the loyal press of Washington, the Old Dominion, the City of Washi mn, the ladies of the Third Ward, the City of getown, “the hero, patriot, and statesman, General Winfield Scott,’ General Hickey, General Stone. &c., &c Patriotic and bumorous songs were sung by Capt. Kelly, Ist Sergeant Murphy and Seibold. The uartette band of Company A was loudly called pm but their leader, Mr. Atwell, begged the bo pany to excuse them, assome of the band were ¥ it.
