Star. | FOREIGN MISCELLANY. Victor Exwaxve.’s Extry into Napres. [From the respondent of the Daily News) .—I am delighted to say that both K og Victor Emmanuel and Garibaldi e ies together, for it would have bee: a grievous thing if, as had been feared, the apostle of Italian liberty, the man of the cea- tury, had not beea united with the sovereign on this great occasion. When they left railway on route for the cathedral, there were Victor Emmanuel and Garibaldi on his left hand, and the pro-Dietators of Sicily and aples sitting opposite them in the same car- riage. The suite followed, and all aloug the railway to the Duomo there was a perfect ova- tion. ‘The stree’s, which are very narrow, and scarcely wide enough to admitof more than two fat persons abreast, were festooned with flowers and evergreens hung from window to window, pictures, tapestry, banners, and all the adjuncts of a great fete in Naples were there, but looking as triste and downcast a: hoary rains could make them. On arriving at the Duomo, or the Cathedral, the of which was beantifally decorated. His Hi y was received by the authorities, and conducted to the high altar amidst such a storm of shouts d applause as could only be compared to the orm which was raging ow “Viva Victor | Emmanuel !"’ Viva Garibaldi !”” «Viva Italia Unita!’* Such were tne cries which rose, not from one, but from « united body of many thousands, who waved their hats, and hand- kerchiefs, and flags as the ro’ vanced to the high altar; thedral Church of San Januarius, the spec pretector of the Bourbons, whose favor (the | szint’s) Baron Brenier not long since requested as an honor for M. Thoavenel. There was | me attempt to silence the multitude, but you ht as well have told the waves of the sea to be silent, and the shouts rose louder and louder by some irresistible necessity which no human power could control. The King did not take his seat on ths throne, | but steed a little below it, and wipe !—aye, even kings perspire—yes, wiped his hanu then bis face, with his pocket handkerchief; and then looked round with that bold, . uuted aspect which indicated an iron nerve. ortly after, the ceremony began, and His M sjesty knelt at the prie Dien, whilst Gari- ro-Dictators, Farini, and others, ind him. The Te Deum was sung in magnificent style; royal party de« same long and, as soon over, the nded from the altar amidst vatinued and increasing shouts, went to v the treasury and the ca1pel of San Jenuarias, where the blood of the eatnt is kept. Of course it was to be visited, but who oan imagine either of those men bowing down in reverence before this chemical humbug ? A+ soon as the ceremony was over they came down the aisle, and I had an admirable view of the King and the Liberator face to face, and am of sun shone out on the —_ * Humanity” after. The difference ts ions could not fail to strike the I looked at Victor Emm unvarying face and bold glance, and said —he is the re galaniuomo, true to his word, ady to maintain it with his sword; but I ton Garibaldi, end felt all the moral ,greodeur of his character—not a statesman, something mueh higher—he car- bis character, an am: t ch wasimmense, though the soldiers xround the church on either side did ail they could to | the path open, but it was all of no use; | f the poorest of the poor laid hold of his eign’s hand and ked with him ah peopleclung to Garibaldi and kissed and embraced him as a father. He was the great idol in a temple of idols; and so the royal party walked down the church, and entered _— carriage in the midst of the bursts and ‘ long continued storms of applause, as herete- fore. The King was dressed, let me sey, a8 0 4ioueral of Division, and aldi in the same ple dress in which he had conquered the ies and given y a kingdom. d e cathedral clergy refused to officiate on this occasivn, the clergy of the palace offered their services. Their customers rebelled, and either sbaved” themselves or went with full beards and flowing locks.
