THE EVENING STAR. > The United States steam vessel Floyd, built for the Government to ply between the fortifications at Sandy Hook and New York, was on Saturday forcibly taken possession of by one of her builders and towed to Williamsburg, on the plea that she was not paid for. Marshal Rynders, according to instructions, replevined the vessel, and had her conveyed to the United ‘States barge office. It seems that the builder was rather fast in his proceedings, having demanded payment before it was due, as the vessel is still in an unfinished state. “U7 Prof. Wise, in a letter to the New York Trivune, denies that he has abandoned the project of constructing a trans-Atlantic balloon, but that on the otber band he has ordered for that purpose 7,000 yards of stout Luchan Pongee silk from Europe, through s New York house, which be names. Ze he Marvianp Potitics. —Col. Wm.J. Blackistone, who was announced as an independent candidate for Congress iu the sixth district of Maryland, bas withdrawn from the canvass. Col. Hughes, the Democratic nominee, will therefore have but one opponent—Mr. Wagner, of Anne Arundel county. Binge disorganizing effects of ““come-outer- tern”? a among the sect commonly called Qu ers, it is now certain that many have set their faces against the traditions of Geo. Fox and William Penn. ‘The causes of dissension do not very clearly appear. further than that the new lights charge conservative elders with undertaking to reign, instead of bowing to the Lord and saticring him te ruie and reign. {>~ A citizen of Rackland.
