Haxpsome Improvement.—One of the most noticeable improvements of the season is that now in progress on H street, between Fourteenth and Fifteenth streets, under the superintendence of Mr. Job Angus, who is the architect and con- tractor for the entire work, which involves an outlay of some 254,000. It consists of two brown- stone front four story houses, with basements, each of which is thirty feet wide by seventy feet deep, and will contain some eighteen rooms. These owcllines, the walls of which are about one-half erected, are to be finished in “ Fifth ’ style, with black walnut and rosewood 's, and the most bighly polished marble mantels and registers, and with all modern con- veniences. They are severally owned by Dr. W. P. Johnson, of this city, and Geo. 8. Fowle, Esq, of Alexandria, Va., who alge occupying them when they shall have been finished. Those interested in the progress of St. Andrews’ Free Church will be glad to know that the con- tractor for its erection (Mr. Angus) Proposes com- mencing operatious upon it in about one week. ‘The work contemplated being done this sammer there invelves an outlay of about 96.000, with which the contractor expects to erect the walls of one wing of the church and place the roof upon it. This will be guite a forward move towards the completion of that important improvemeut.
