The Union,speaking of the Neapolitan exiles, thinks that it is perhaps quite as well that they have chosen to seek other shores, as the de- mands of those who have suffered as deeply as have the Neapolitan exiles are apt to be so ex- travagant and difficult of satisfaction, that they forbid ali sympathy at the outszt, and drive away those whe would gladly join them in the prosecution of a righteous cause. At the same time. the Union would extend to them the hand of friendship on English soil. Mr. R. is an individual who left the Democratic party not long since to “shriek for freedom,” and received his reward in being elected by the 2 Clerk of the late Indiana Legislature. The hour of ten having arrived, Captain James, Warden of the jail, accompanied by the Sheriff and his deputies, proceeded to the cells for the purpose of preparing the parties for their end. ‘The Sheriff first proceeded to the cell of Cyphus, whose arms were pinioned by one of the deputies. During the interview which prevailed, Cyphus maintained the most perfect composure, and denied | to the very last his guilt. He very earnestly thanked his spiritual advisers for their good servi- ces, and confidently expressed the hope that he would meet them all in heaven. Morgan, of New York, has refused to commute the punish- ment of Mrs. Hartung, convicted of poisoning her husband. The Governor designates the crime of poisoning as the worst sort of murder, and the most difficult of detection, and declares that he cannot conceive that he should feel authorized to interfere in any case of poisoning where the guilt is clearly proved, and especially when the mur- derer isthe husband or wife. He expresses the belief, from a careful review of the evidence, that Mrs, Hartung was guilty of the deliberate murder of her husband by poisoning him. He then refers to the aversion to hanging a woman, but thinks that public justice and the safety of human life require it in this instance. Therefore he can- not commute the sentence, and requires thatcoun- sel will urge Mrs. Hartung to cease to hope for Executive clemency. (> The trial of James Green in Warrenton, Va., for the killing of Carver, at the Fauquier Springs last September, has just terminated in his acquittal. After the evidence was given in, the jury announced from their box that they were egreed upon the verdict they should render. and did not wish an argument. It is said that a more intelligent and substantial jury never sat in the county, and that the prompt acquittal of the ac- cused by such a jury is avery gratifying fact to his numerous relatives. The scene in court on the announcement of the verdict, is said to have been quite affecting, the accused receiving with deep emotion, as his numerous friends gathered around him and testified their sympathy.
