To: Heraup at Favir—The New York Herald is a wost incorrigible blunderer where Virginia politics are concerned. It will be re- membered how often, when it has differed from the Scar in its ealeulations concerning them, we have taken occasion to point to agtual re- sults to show how utterly unrcliable its sourees of information on that particular subject really are. Thus. it predicted with entire confidence the defeat of Mr. Hunter upon the question of | his re-election to the U. S. Senate again. that the State Legislature would sustain the views of Governor Wise upon the Lecompton constitution question; also. that the Hon. John Letcher would be defeated in his late contest for the Democratic gubernatorial pomination. Tn all those eases the Star cautioned the pub- lie against the adoption of the views upon them appearing in the Hera/?; and in all of them the result proved that the Star was correct in its judgment, and the Herald signally at fault. It is again being grievously misled with re- ference to Virginia politics. Thus. it bas adopted the idea that the Opposition nomince will give Mr. Letcher a tight run. if not beat him. In this it is as wide of the mark as ever John Leteher’s majority cannot fail to prove the heaviest ever thrown in a Virginia State election, though the vote will probably be light The Old-Line Whig strength, which has ab- stained from voting with the American party. will go. toa man. for Mr. Letcher; while the di- vision of the Inte American party disposed to in every party. it will be remembered—will take that occasion to get there Heacta or run Posrwasren During last night.
