Hovss Fursisutne Goovs.—The Star’s read- ers, curious to note the progressing improve- ‘ments in an important branch of house furnish- ing, were advised a day or two since to visit the Ware-rooms of Clagett, Dodson & Co., where a Stock of household 4. goods—from the com- monest toweling up to the most elaborate car- peting that mechanical skill and artistic taste can produce, is to be seen and to be purchased for far less money than such goods could be bought for im this latitude not many years since . and, to-day, it affords us — to rec- ommend tothe public interested the economy of bousehold arrangements and the spear My of making them with as much taste as Possible, to call at the ware-rooms of another house- furnisbieg establishment in another line. We refer to that of C. W. Boteler, Pennsyivania avenue, between Ninth and Tenth streets, which ‘an any house in the world, situated in a city of the ulation of Washington—an important branc its trade being to ship elegant and recherche plated ware, china ware, composition ornaments, cutlery, &c.,to the South and West, on orders from persons of taste and wealth sojourning in oer midst in the winter. He deserves infinite epedit for thus bringing into notice various Amer- jean manufactures, which of late have come to drive out of use well nigh entirely, their rivals of European production. If we are not mistaken, he was the first extensive dealer who exhibited on bis shelves the American piated ware, which is now admitted to be the finest manufactured in the world—equal to the best European in finish and darability, while as far superior to any made in Europe in design as one can conceive. ‘The house manufacturis these particular goods to the order of Mr.C. Boteler, has its head and front in Dorchester, Massachusetts, we believe That the reader may comprebend the impoasi- bility of doing justice to its skill with the pea, we advise him to inspect its wares at Boteler'x— its combination castors, some of which embrace butter dishes, fruit dishes, egg stands, cups and spoons, all within the elaborate and exquisitely ornamented castor stand, yet so artistically ar- rangéd as at first to deceive the beholder into the idea that all before him is simply a orgeous ar- ——— of dinner castors. The House import their own French china, from plain lerns up to as fine and elaborate in their embe! lishments, as any ever got up by the most celebrated New York houses. They also seil a Jarge quantity of @ peculiar china ware manufactured in Georgia, which is not behind a imported from France, either in durability or finish. On the whole, it is superior to any other American china we have so far seen. We know not whence their Parian marble ware, from chamber xets to exquisite statuary, comes, or their bronzed ornaments. We only know that no House in this country show a reater variety of such yoods, or such goods in ter taste or at lower prices. They ave, of late, become indispensablesx m all well-furnished domestic establishments, it will be remembered The sale and ware rooms of C. W. Boteler consist of three apartments, 50 by 130 feet. The lower is devoted for the most part to the exhibi- tion of rich Parian marble goods, china, plate, Bohemian, glass, and a thousand nick nacks, ali indispensable in housekeeping. The second floor is the exhibition room for rich rosewood, mabogany, and other furniture, mirrors, &c ; and on the third floor one findsa large collection of ordinary chamber furniture, &e. A stroll through these different apartments affords a capital idea, indeed, of the progress made by late improvements in the production of such goods— tm their style and finish, and also in their tie ss ste now sold at much lower Prices than he: fore. Tux Uxtow Praver Muztine was led by Rev Dr. Gurley on yesterday afternoon, and was a ticularly impressive meeting. Dr. Gurley made a few touching remarks on the subject before the meeting—the imp ort- ance of the ministry and all other agencies in the og work, and the necessity of looking to God for the increase. Rev. Dr. Sunderland reviewed the sentiments of the Spans which had been sung; aiso spoke of tbe work of the Hoty Spirit in the preaching of the Gospel. and exborted Christians to pray for the salvation of sinners Rev. Secondly, it would not become the Corporation to provide a Gee School, at which a few chil- dren could obtai ed destitute of the means to give very a chil- dren rudimental instruction, and compel nually to turn hundreds away from the doors of our Primary Schools.
