When separated I think it probable both were cursing. C. and G. had been drinking. When the parties left for Washington it was well known at the Springs that a duel was on foot. 1 do not recollect having said to any one, at any time, that ‘‘nothing would give me more pleasure than te follow Carver to his grave” hen we re- tarned to Washington from the field, C. asked me to meet him at the Kirkwood House at nine o'clock, which I did. Summoned for Green—Daniel Ward, Lucien B. Norville, Grayson Tyler, Capt. Wm. Green, A. W. Morton, Joseph Noyes, Thomas Fant, Joo. Green. Tuz Anti-Potson Brtt —We stated on Tues- day that ‘Mr. Miller, from the health committee, on Monday last, reported back a bill to regulate the sale of poisons, together with the opinion of the Corporation Attorney, as to the Power of the Councils to enact such a bill.” We presume from the fact that this bill “passed”? the Board of Aldermen that the Corporation Attorney af- firmed “the power of the Conneils to enact such # bill;"’ aud, indeed, it would have appeared “passing strange’? to our humble judgment, if the learned gentleman had expressed or enter- tained a contrary opinion. It wonld seem that, in the course of remark, while this bill was un- der consideration, last Monday, Mr. Alderman Donoho, pleasantly but pointedly observed that “it would be safer for the public generally if (looking at Dr. Thos. Miller) physicians would place the label on all their prescriptions.” We confess that we hardly understand the meaning or point of our worthy friend’s remark. Surely Mr. Donoho did not mean to say or insinnate tbat that physicians should place the “Death's head” and cross bones upon their rescriptions! Now this, we undertake to hint fr not to say, would be probable or not certain death, to ail their ner- vous patients who would rather goa mile out of their way than meet a funeral procession, and who are seized with convulsive shudders at the sightofacottin. Really, friend Donoho, if this Was your meaning it was -‘the unkindest cut of all ;” and we should not, indeed, envy your po- sition, if sickness or accideat should herea: er compel you to seek advice from a veritable M D.; from one of the reguiar army of physicians, whose tire, according to the opinion of a late elo- quent and sarcastic civilian, was, he said, at ail times more deadly than that of th militia! Bout all vadinage apart, we think that the sng- xestion, hint, or inuendo of Alde: Donoho Was seasonably made ; and we hope, for the safe- ty of the sovereign people, that it will be duly regarded. With much deference to the medical faculty, we would aixo sugyvest, that it would be safer for the public, if not quite so beneficial to the undertaker, if physicians, in writing out their prescriptions would discontinue the use of the lead pencil and write with good ink in fair und legible characters their prescriptions, which, perhaps, in not a few cases, fall into the hands of illiterate and inexperienced compounders of medicine both in cities and the country round about Tue Wasuincton Moxument Boarns —A meeting of the Board of Managers of the Wash- ington Monument Society was held in the Mayor’s officer, City Hall, last night. Present, the Mayor ex officio in the Chair, and Messrs Fitzpatrick, Ennis, Kirk, Moore, Blake and Jones. ¢ object of this meeting was to confer with a inittee of the old Board of Managers in re- spect to the validity of the claims of each board. Mr. Fendatl read a paper tothe meeting, in which the claims of the old board were set forth at length. The constitution of the Society was their guide. The officers thus elected were to remain in office until others should be elected, and all vacancies oc- curring in the Board of Managers were to be sup- mee by them until the next triennial election. ence the old board held that the election in 1555 was Illegal, and the election in last Feb- ruary also, they not having been held on the regular triennial periods. Finally, on motion of Mr. Ennis of the new board, the papers which had been subinitted by Mr. Fendall were referred to a committee of three, with Instructions to prepare a written reply to it by the next meeting, which will take Place on the ok of the 13th proximo.
