AsotHER Moontient Trir.—The moonsmiled all the brighter last night to the large company that availed themselves of the opportunity offered by the Liberty Club to steam down the river in the steamer James Guy, and spend the night at Glymont. The steamer left the foot of Seventh street about eight o'clock. Music from Scott’« op Bsrpee soon called all parties to the floor, and daucing was kept up in fine style until the boat neared the wha:fat Glymont. A short time sufficed the company to disembark and arrange for the festivitiesashore. Scott and his assistants took possession of the orchestra, and, after some preliminary tuning, called out, ‘Gentlemen will take partners for a quadrilie,” and ere a moment elapsed, the lithe forms of the yraceful dancers were keeping time to the merry music. Ata later hour the company sat down to a fine supper prepared by mine host of Glymont, who provided for the inner man, as he so well knows how to do The dance was renewed soon after supper; the pinata. Saar go of the night seemed to exhil- erate the party, and give vigor to the movements of the dancers; so pleasure reigned supreme until about half past three o’clock, when the whistle blew, the party reassembled, and the Guy, making a good time up, landed her party before sunrise. he Liberty Club have proved themselves “tramps.” When next they pass a night at Gly- mont, with such a merry company, ‘ may we there to sce.’ Centre Mazxet—The market opened this morning with a very full attendance of dealers in every department, and an abundant supply of Provisions of as good quality as the season affords. Sales were very brisk at an early hour. and the dealers were as cheerful as profilable business could make them. The gangways were crowded, at times, to the inconvenience of dealers and pur- chasers, by parties of persons halting in them to discuss matters of no importance, and some of them to use language unfit to be heard, much less to be uttered, by respectable persons. With the exception of these low gangs, the morning passed away as market days gen » . The prices were about ason Saturday. “i 2 New Tugory of MenictraL Leoistative Detigzs.—Mr. Mobun, Councilman of the Fourth Ward, not long since introduced 2 resolution au- thorizing the Mayor to call on the President and request him to open negotiations with the gov- erument of Great Britain fer the continuance of a branch of the Telegraph Cable to some American rt. It was objected to and laid over. Mr. johnn called it up again, last evening, in order, and Insisted upon its propriety. It was finally laid on the table by a vote of 12to6. This queer resolution was honestly, if ignorantly proposed. Baviy Beaten —This morning we werecalled to visit a young German named Louer, at a res- taurant on Seventh street, near the market. He was the bloodiest victim we have seen for years. He said that last night he was et a German ball at a house near the railroad depot; some per- sons—shoemakers—had been there creating a Ht = turbance during the evening ; the officers came and arrested him; he was taken to the guard- house, aud this morning was ordered to ay a fine and costs. He is a butcher by trade pal has been employed by Mrs. Boblayer, at the Centre Market, and bas the reputation of a quiet citizen. Ryan Cuaret Excurston.—It will beseen that our Ryland Chapel friends purpose giving an excursion to Arlington on Friday, the 27th inst. We are sure that they will have a good time, their excursion to Glymont fully satisfying all who particlpated, of their power to promote the happiness of their triends. It is needless for us to add that a more beautiful spet than Arling- ton for a pic nic cannot be found. A Dano sxovus CountERFRIT.—We were shown to-day a surpassingly well executed counterfeit quarter eazle—one well calculated to deceive good judges of money. It bad little of the greasy feel noticeable about most counterfeits, but could be detected by its ligbteess on balancing it in the hand. It was composed of some brittle material, — on being dropped ona table shivered like glass. ee Tue Steamer Diamoxn Starz —This active little prepeller, Captain Kirwan, which has been running regularly between th port and Baiti- more, in conjunction with the staunch old steamer Columbia, bas been withdrawn temporarily from the route In order to give an op staalty for making repairs. Inthe meantime Rho Columbia will, as usual, continue her regalar trips. Rear Estate.—Yesterday, a Green, auction- eer, sold lot 26, in square 499. on Four-and- balf treet, between | and K, with improvements, iwersiory ‘prick dwelling, to George Carl, for Tax Gaarctitoxy Musoucrions in raz Boa ov ALpsuuen Last Evininc.—Whes the Tesolutions, fixing upon the ist of ber for celebrating the laying the telegraph cable, were before the Board of Aldermen, Mr. Dunnington remarked that he should vote against them ; that no one was more gratified at the success of Amer- ican genius and enterprise than he was; and no one of the scientific achievements of Prof. Morse and Lieut. Maury, and the energy of Mr. Field; but he could not see the advantage of a teleyrapbic line terminating at both ends on British soil, and, as it appears, under the exclu- sive control of the British directors and British operators. Mr. D. read from the London Times a paragraph decl: "e that it was of more ad- leaks to England than to any of their rivals and that the successful laying of the cable had done more to consolidate British power than the wisdom of her Legislature or the loyalty of ber colonial subjects. For his part, he looked upon Great Britain as the natural enemy of his coun- try, therefore he could rejoice at nothing tending to consolidate her power or strengther her Gov- ernment. Some had even declared that the polit- ical disunion of the two countries in 1776 was to be forgotten, and they were to be reunited by means of this magnetic cable. Were we to be called upon to fire cannon and ring bells in commemoration of such an event? John Adams prophesied that the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence would be ush- ered in by the ringing of bells and the firing of cannon; and Mr. D was willing to vote money, “und to aid in any way in bis power, to carry out that prophecy. He thought the views of the British press relative to the fetes taking place at Cherbourg would be appropriate for us to use toward this British consolidation cable. He cared not how many ory Set or Irish, or Ger- mans came to our country to make it their home; he bad a hearty welcome for all; but he desi to keep aloof from foreign governments. There would be more cause for rejoicing at the comple- tion of a telegraphic communication with Cal. fornia, fi over our own svil, and under our o' ag. Objection was raised Lt § other. members on the Tound of the expense which would necessarily incurred by the Corporation in causing any celebration in accordance with the resolutions, and which it could ill afford in the present con- dition of its finances. After some farther debate, the resolutions, as Teported in-another column, were rejected. [comMUNIcaTED Mooniieut Excursion —On Friday nigbt one of (hose pleasant parties came off at the Glymont Pavilion. The affair was of a very select character and was gotten up under the auspices of three or four of our most respectable and worthy young gentlemen. About? o'clock on the evening re- ferred to, that neat and comfortable little steamer the James Guy, was ready at her wharf to re- ceive thecompany as they emerged from their carriages—abont 50 or 60 gentlemen, and the same number of ladies were in attendance. Withers’ fine band was engaged on the occasion, and dis- coursed delightful music to the joyous company, who fully appreciated it, we should judge, by the glee and hilarity with which they engaged in the nany new styles of dances now in vogue After a pleasant trip down the river, they arrived at Glymont, without anything to mar their pleas- ure, and there disembarked to enjoy themselves in such pleasures as the tastes of the different parties might dictate. The Pavilion was band- lighted, and decorated with much taste. The music immediately brought most of the par- ty to their feet ; yentlemen selected their partners and the merry dance ‘an again, and was kept up until the welcome bell of supper was heard. he different tables were soon surrounded with somewhat hungry guests, to do service to the good things furnished by that prince of caterers, Jones, which he had prepared in his usual good taste and style. Not only was the table supplied with all the good things that the markets could afford, but there was more than abundance for all who partook of them, aud a ‘few more left.”’ After doing ample justice to the table. the com- poy again adjourned to the dancing saloon and ept up their enjoyment until the small hours of morning warned them of their returning home. Between the polkas, waltzes, cotillions, &c., the company was entertained by the unique perform- ance of the old Virginia reel, Performed bya “colored darkie,"’ who interspersed bis perform- ance by sundry grotesque somersets, which caused much merriment and applause among the company. The old gray bat was then handed around by the performer, and he was liberally rewarded for his performance, we should judge. by the jingling of the coin which was showere in the hat by the ladies and gentlemen around him. At about 34 o’clock signal was given from the boat for starting, which soon brought the com- pany on board. After a pleasant a up the river, with instrumental and vocal music accom- panying, the whole party were safely landed, and wended their way to their respective homes, much gratified and pleased ; and, we have no doubt, as soon as they arrived there, they imme- diately courted the embraces of that sleepy old fellow, Morpheus, if they had not done so ‘pre- viously.”? DEticacixs oF THE Season —On passing up the avenue this morning we saw at Hammack’s a rare display of tempting viands. Viz: Orto- lans, woodcocks, snipes, green turtles, soft and bard crabs, fine Norfolk oysters, fresh spots, mackerel, perch, and sheephead, with fine fruits and vegetables to match. Really Hammack de- serves as much credit for the energy and enter- prise with which he caters for the appetites of the gourmets of the Federal Metropolis, as for the skill and good taste with which he sets on the table the result of bis capital catering. His restaurant richly deserves the remarkable popu- larity it has achieved amony those who know how to appreciate good eating and drinking. WrMan is Comtnc '—Wyman, the wizard, whose popularity is never on the wane with the oung of old, grave or gay of our city, will open his budget of quaint, queer, and quissical things at Odd Fellows’ Hall on the 6th of September. Croes-F1Rinc.—Susan, Maria and Mary Gray, colored, were arrested for disorderly conduct and rofanity. They were taken before Justice Wil- Fiams and the case clearly made out, and each was fined $5 and costs. They, In turn, accused Washington Carter and his wife with the same offence, and they were also fined $5 and costs. : Bap Breinninc. —This morning a little col- ored boy named Richard Henry Young, almost ten years old, was arrested for throwing stones, and striking a white boy somewhat smaller, in- juring bis head and hand. He was taken before Justice Donn, and after being badly scared by the officers, was fined $1 and costs, which was paid by his guardian.
