Maron’s Orricr, Wasmixoton, June 3, 1558. } The election of public officers for the Federal City is about to take place, and the country ex- pects every good citizen of the District to do his duty in the preservation of order and good gov- ernment smong us. The right of every qualified voter to exercise bis eleetive franchise according to his judgment is dear to freemen, and odious to tyrants only Any attempt to resist thi sacred tight in the coming election will be met and resisted with energy and determination There is power inherent among us to protect our citizens in their lawful rights, and force will be used to any extent that shall appear necessary and proper to assert and vindicate the public ee. The Board met pursuant to adjournment. The President, W. F. Bayly, being absent, the Vice President, W. W. Moore, took the chair. A communication was read from the Mayor an- nouncing his having signed various acts. Also, one enclosing the account of the Co ration with the Bank of Washington up to the ‘Uth ult., showing a balance to the Corporation credit of $1.660.°5 The committee to confer with the Mayor on the subject of taking precantionary measures for the — of the peace during the election on londay next, reported that the Mayor bad con- certed measures in connection with the Marshal of the District, and would — his proclaima- tion to-day, together with lists of names of citi- zens to act as special police on the day of election. On motion of Mr. Ruff, a resolution was adopted requesting the Mayor to authorize the trustees of the public schools to grant to the commissioners of election of the first precinct of the Sixth Ward the public school-house at the corner of Seventh street east and G street south forthe purpose of holding the election on Monday next. Mr. Riggs addressed a friendly suggestion to his fellow-Aldermen, of all shades of opinion, that to the extent of their individual ability the: use their efforts to discourage whatever may terd to disturbance or disorder on Monday next. That they would all, with a united purpose, impress upon the minds of their constituents to the ut- most of their ability to do so, that any recurrence of the scenes of last _ at our coming election would be of infinitely more injury to the city than the most imayinative mind could Possibly ap- prehend, as resuiting from the defeat of any one of the candidates in the field for their Mr. R. had no doubt but that this spi aetuate every member present; and that by ex- ercising the influence of a peaceful example be- fore their friends al the election precincts much good might be done in preserving peace and or- der on the day of election ‘These remarks met with general approbation On motion of Mr. Houston, the Board then adjourned sine dis Let lawless gangs be assured that they will not escape condign punishment should they venture to commit outrages similar to those enacted in this city but a year ago. A Winp Max.—Last night a German, named Hildebrand, a neatly clad fellow, evidently un- accustomed to riotous and disorderly expeditions behaved in a very outrageous manner in the S Tee , and went so far as to try and force his way into a Masonic Lodge. He was taken fom the lodge to the street, and an officer sent for, when be was taken, with much difticnity, to the guard house. Milburn, Proprietor of the drug store near Willard’s Hotel, was shame- fully assaulted about 11 o'clock last night, as he came out of the building in which he bad rooms, oa Pennaylvania avenue, between Fourteenth and Fifteenth streets an came up from a crowd that steed on the ewalk, and seizing him by the collar, struck him se severe a blew in the face as to Knock him within the door, whither, however, he was net followed.
